A Young Scientist Transforms a Nike KD Sneaker Into A “Smart Shoe” The Generates Power

Nike Kd Smart Shoe

The average human takes 7,000 steps a day, and each step generates an amount of force synonymous to body weight. A young scientist named Angelo Casimiro of the Philippines decided to transfer that energy into electricity by creating a custom sneaker that translates the everyday step into usable power. Using the Nike KDTrey5 silhouette (the shoes were exclusive to Asia), Casimiro created a “Smart Shoe” that collects energy and uses it to power a connected device. How could this be used in the real world? Angelo says you can charge your own phone while walking. He has entered his concept into Google’s 2014 Science Fair and although any sort of production is far away, it’s interesting to see young fans of KD shoes integrate some incredible science into the model.
