The turnout of 2,100+ sneakerheads broke a Sneaker Con NYC record as footwear fiends from the NYC area and around the globe touched down at 151 Sullivan St. to join in on the festivities. Sneaker Con NYC was created as a celebration of the sneaker game, and serves as the perfect haven for those who are new to the sneaker culture, veterans of the game, or somewhere in between, and judging by the massive queue waiting to get in, it was clear that the world of sneakers was focused on one building located in the SoHo district of Manhattan.
Aspecial showcase by adidas Originals featuring products from their most popular lines as well as the debut of the adidas Originals LQC was just one of the many pleasures that were available, but vendors from around the world also set up shop to show off some of the best collections of all genres. Each event-goer came dressed to impress as we witnessed a never-ending barrage of today’s sickest neck-breakers from the moment the doors opened. Of course, we’ve got a full visual recap for you if you were unable to attend, so continue reading to check out why Sneaker Con NYC is the supreme sneaker-centric event the world has ever seen, and stay tuned for a complete Sneaker Con NYC Feet Recap!

Many of you are well aware of the devastating earthquake that hit the coast of Japan this past Friday, March 11th, 2011. Nike Sportswear joined in on the excitement in the California area and put up an amazing space on intersection of Hollywood and Vine to celebrate the annual NBA All-Star Game. The “Los Fearless” theme invaded the venue and transformed the Vortex into an event and retail space for all things Nike Sportswear with a few Nike Basketball items sprinkled in. Acting as one of the primary attractions was an exhibition of All-Star Game Nike Air Force 1s dating back to 2005 to the current 2011 editions – all of which were on loan from Air Force 1 Aficionado Mayor. Other displays celebrated the three neighborhoods of Los Angeles – East LA, Hollywood and Orange County – with motion graphics projections displayed on the concave roof of the domed building. Event-goers had the opportunity of purchasing the Los Angeles-themed Nike footwear and apparel with a special customization station available for select pieces of clothing. The main event of the Nike Sportswear Los Fearless Event was the premiere of ‘The Black Mamba‘, which starred Kobe Bryant, Bruce Willis, Danny Trejo, and Kanye West. Continue reading for a full recap of the event and stick with Sneaker News for more 2011 NBA All-Star festivities!

It looks like Kanye had no interest in the Grammys, and instead decided to stay in New York for Fashion Week, where he was spotted on Sunday by Wendy Lam (nitro:licious) at the Tory Burch Presentation. Mr. West was first spotted mixing into the crowd of fashion journalists and fashion bloggers, but during a second showing, he was joined by Tory Burch in the crowd just a few seats from Ms Lam. Kanye stopped for a few photos with fans before jetting out, but not before he was photographed wearing the Air Jordan VI Black/Infrared for a second time this week. Wendy also notes that Kanye is a big fan of Tory Burch and her collection, as he was also spotted attending her 9am presentation during last season’s NYFW. Much thanks to nitro:licious for shooting over the photos.

The yearly Air Force 1 tradition of a special colorway commemorating the ‘animal of the year’ of the Chinese Zodiac continued in 2011 with the Rabbit being the focus. Inspired by the White Rabbit Creamy Candy, this special edition Air Force 1 ‘Year of the Rabbit’ was released with a special packaging mimicking an over-sized candy wrapper. Inside the ‘wrapper’ was the Air Force 1, which features a mix of butter suede, smooth leather, chenille material on the swoosh and tongue tab, and a milky-white midsole/outsole combination – visually similar to the White Rabbit candy. This special release was held at JUICE Shanghai and NPC Shanghai, with a wider release going down this Friday – but without the special packaging. Check out this quick release recap below and if you’re in need of this sweet pair of AF1s, snag a pair on eBay.

We first saw a teaser of the Nike SB Dunk Book back in late December and we saw a few more previews of the book since. China’s dunk.com.cn just published a detailed look into this incredible retrospective of the Nike Dunk from its humble beginnings of a basketball sneaker to its transformation into the Nike SB flagship. Since it is published by Nike SB it focuses on the Nike Dunk SB story from its beginning in 2002 to the rebuilt 2011 Nike Dunk SB. Here’s what Nike SB says about the new Dunk SB: “Introducing the all new Nike Dunk Pro SB; now with new outsole tooling and completely redesigned tread pattern for better grip. In addition, a new Phylon midsole was added instead of the existing EVA wedge, so it is now lighter and thinner while offering better cushioning and more flexibility.”

A few weeks ago, we first learned about Sneakerpedia through a teaser video which asked the world wide sneaker community to be ready for “The greatest sneaker archiving project”. Last night, in London, the website held a launch party to celebrate the launch of the beta version of the site with a small group of the world’s biggest collectors and sneaker enthusiasts. The launch also brought out not only two of the biggest sneaker personalities in the world, but also two of the best DJ’s in the game, Bobbito Garcia and DJ Clark Kent. For set one, Bobbito set down the tone for the night, for set two, each took turns playing a record, and DJ Clark Kent closed the night off with a long set. We’ll quote an attendee at the event “DJ Clark Kent murdered London…” to best recap the energy of the party. London’s biggest sneakerheads were also in attendance, and all attendees were able to register for this beta launch. Not to worry though, as we’ll have a number of invites to give out to our loyal Sneaker News readers very soon, so stay tuned, and for now, you can check out some photos from the launch.
