BK CTRL RAIN 12 940x670 SSUR*PLUS x British Knights Control Hi

If you know streetwear, then you know the name SSUR, whether it be for the cleverly subversive styles currently shaking up the industry today or for the renegade approach that the brand has been bringing to the market for the last 25 years. A true pioneer of the culture, founder Russ Karablin, has built SSUR into a multi-label powerhouse with its hands on all kinds of projects and mediums, including sneakers. And while SSUR is certainly no stranger to footwear collabs, but it’s been a while since we’ve been treated to one.

While the Reebok Ventilator tends to be historically overshadowed by other iconic Vector Brand runners like the Classic Leather and Instapump Fury, the shoe still holds up admirably as one of the strongest offerings of its era. With the retro runner boom still in full swing, 2014 is proving to be a big comeback year for the Ventilator as Reebok continues to come with new colors and materials to reassimilate the classic 1990 model into the contemporary sneaker landscape. In addition to the recently released “Night Vision” and “Heritage” collections, here we get a closer look at the “Tonal Ballistic” pack, featuring three simple and clean Ventilator makeups. Whether it’s the Trophy Gold/Retro Yellow, the English Emerald/Timeless Teal, or the Cranberry Red/Excellent Red, each pair features a nice combination of rugged suede and ballistic mesh on the uppers contrasted by crispy white midsoles. Continue on for a closer look at all three, and if you like what you see, you can find them now at global Reebok Certified accounts.

Jordan Brand’s Retro Remaster initiative is not just about using premium materials. It’s about refining the art of traditional shoe-making in a day and age when innovative (and more cost effective) materials and construction methods have become the norm in the footwear business. Knowing that their consumers are passionate and well educated about the sneakers they love, Jordan has answered the call for a higher grade of materials on their Retro releases, but their efforts reach far beyond just using better leathers.

Back in the early ’90s when stylists and personal shoppers didn’t necessarily dress your favorite rappers, certain fashion statements managed to organically permeate pop culture on their own merits and without any kind of underlying corporate agenda. It’s safe to say that on the morning of Wu-Tang’s “Can It Be All So Simple” video shoot, Raekwon probably could have never imagined that the jacket he put on that day would take on a life of its own as a milestone moment for an already legendary brand and an iconic slice of hip-hop style to be revered for years to come.

sn select stash x reebok question cover SELECT 1 on 1: Stash on His Reebok Question & More

To simply refer to Stash as a legendary graffiti artist would be greatly understating his influence on so many other different mediums and subcultures. Yes, it all started with graffiti, but since his early ’80s days painting trains in NYC, he’s gone on to apply his talents to a wide variety of creative projects and products with an eclectic cross-section of brands. From Burton to Nike, to his own apparel brands, Subware and Recon, to his work with Bape and WeSC, and most recently, Reebok, Stash has demonstrated a keen ability to navigate back and forth between the street world and the corporate culture in a way that few of his peers have been able to master with their credibility still in tact.

Outside of PEs and other special editions created for players and celebrities, it’s pretty rare to see Jordan Brand do collaborations with outside partners. Over the years, we’ve seen a handful of such cases; the much-coveted UNDFTD Air Jordan IVs, Dave White’s paint splattered Air Jordan 1 creations, and even the denim-centric Levi’s 23/501 pack from 2008 to name a few. These instances have been few and far between, but there’s now another pair on the horizon that will soon join that exclusive company.

A few weeks ago, we brought you a look at Bronx collector extraordinaire BikeManX’s incredible collection of PEs, samples, rarities, and special editions, but it barely scratched the surface of the jaw-dropping treasures that lie within. With his all-time favorite shoe being the Nike Air Force 1, you can imagine that he’s got quite the stockpile of them, and Part 2 of our BikeManX SELECT Collections feature focuses on just that.
