Previously released over a decade ago, 12 years to be exact, the Nike Air Penny II is back for the first time since its original run. The sneaker will release in a black and a white colorway, with the black version being released earlier than its scheduled October drop. It will now release this Saturday, September 27th. The white version, worn by Hardaway in the 1997 NBA All-Star Game, is scheduled to release this coming November. Both sneakers feature Hardaway’s Orlando Magic colors of blue, white, and black, while the white-based sneaker features a Penny logo on the ankle, and a swoosh on the heel. The black-based shoe contains the opposite. As far as the mechanics of the shoe, both feature Nike Air technology in the heel and forefoot, complemented by a carbon fiber shank at midfoot, for arch support. The sneakers will be available at Footlocker stores nationwide, for a retail price of $140. Via Nicekicks

For those of you old enough to remember, Nike released a number of ads and commercials about ten years ago, featuring a group called the Fun Police, whose job was to bring fun back to the game of basketball. The gang was made up of Nike’s top NBA players at the time: Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett, and Tim Hardaway, although Kidd and Garnett have parted with the company. In commemoration of this special campaign, Nike has decided to create another hybrid sneaker, combining aspects of the Zoom Flight V worn by Jason Kidd, the Air Garnett III worn by Kevin Garnett, and the Zoom Flight T Bug sported by Tim Hardaway. Two colors, blue/black and white/silver, are scheduled to release April and May 2009. via Kenlu

With the Nike Zoom LeBron VI officially unveiled last month during the Beijing Olympics, two low-top colorways, black/white and red/white, originally profiled earlier this month, were spotted at the Nike Spring 2009 Canada Trade Show. Both sneakers feature a mid-foot strap, like the high-tops, while the black/white pair contains patent and regular leather materials. The red pair combines a snake skin-like material with canvas. The sneakers also have full-length Nike Zoom units in the midsole and Nike Zoom double-stacked heels for ultimate performance. An exact release date has yet to be announced, but the shoes will release Spring/Summer 2009. via Kenlu

The Doernbecher Freestyle will hit its fifth year of collaboration with Nike with this seasons collection of shoes. Since 2003, Nike has selected 5 patients annually from Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to design their very own sneakers. You might remember last year’s freestyle collection contained a special Air Jordan 2 designed by Sheridan Brenton. This year, 16-year-old Tony Taylor Jr. aka Mr. Boober, a Nephrotic Syndrome and a kidney transplant survivor, got the chance to design his very own Air Jordan 1 sneaker. This was a dream for Tony, as he is an avid Air Jordan collector.
With the help of Jordan designers Jayson Mayden and Estelle Maranan, he was able to put together a work of art that was inspired by his life experiences. The black/blue color scheme represents his success with the battle against kidney disease, while the contrasting yellow and number 15 honor his favorite player, Carmelo Anthony. Below the number 15 is the date he received his kidney transplant and below that are four stars which represent his high school’s mascot, the Generals. The palm trees along the midsole resemble the Bahamas. This sneaker, along with four other shoes designed by Doernbecher patients will release on November 14th. Via Sole Collector

As some of you may remember, Nike introduced a dance-oriented workout for women called the Rockstar Workout a few years ago, which has affected the fitness world greatly. After a couple years of design and research, the Nike Women’s Training Design Team has come out with the ultimate sneaker for this type of workout, combining a stylish look with the flexibility and comfort that a great hip-hop/break dancing sneaker should have. The sneaker contains flashy, lightweight uppers, with a white and pink, durable, non-slip outsole. Pink fat laces finish the shoe and give the sneaker some b-boy or girl flare.
