Who rocked the best kicks over the last two nights? That title might go to Jordan Crawford and his Air Jordan V ‘Raging Bull’ in a losing effort against the Knicks, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t other heat! Quentin Richardson rocked the Air Jordan X ‘Old Royal’, while the Chicago counterpart popped up on a few more players like Demar DeRozan, who has been exclusive to the Kobe VI for a while. LeBron James wore the Black/Red PE of his LeBron 9 again, Jordan Hill of the Rockets wore the Air Flight ’89 in a fitting colorway, and Jeremy Lin continued the Knicks’ ‘Linning’ ways with the Hyperfuse Low. The simple fact is, while we still have an almost infinite amount of technical innovation ahead of us, certain things about the sneaker industry are almost set in stone by this point in history. For example, even in the craziest Jeremy Scott or Y-3 releases, the shape of any sneaker is still going to reflect our natural anatomy. And because of the fact that we’ve seen so many recognizeable designs over the past couple decades, it seems like the majority of palatable color combos have been utilized and given a nickname. But then you see something like the adidas Originals ZX 700, a familiar silhouette with a palette so unique, it makes you realize there’s still plenty of real estate left on the color wheel. These really just employ your basic ‘Microsoft/Google/eBay’ color scheme, but the subtle tweaks to each of the primary colors plus a pinch of purple gives these a simultaneously rustic and vibrant feel. adidas Basketball is determined to make sure that the 2012 NBA All-Star Game isn’t an entirely Swooshed out affair, dropping a couple special signature sneakers from their premier athletes. The adidas adiZero Rose 2.5 and the adidas adiPower Howard 2 are the models in question, both of which come in a vibrant set of citrus tones resulting in a unified look across the sneakers. We already know that both Derrick Rose and Dwight Howard have the capabilities to make a huge on-court impression, so will the big weekend along with these powerful colorways galvanize interest in their latest? When you think of non-traditional enclosures, examples like the Footscape’s asymmetrical lacing system, the Reebok Insta Pump Fury and Puma Disc Blaze are probably right at the top of the list. But none of those can hold a candle to the latest release from ever-innovative Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto‘s long-running collaboration with adidas, the Y-3 Black Savage hightop. Sporting a Tricolore sole with more teeth than your average hacksaw, this shelltoed boot-inspired design utilizes an elastic cord lockdown system like the one Yamamoto used on the Y-3 Sneak, another model we expect as part of the spring/summer 2012 collection. The NBA headlines continued over the last two days, as some major milestones were reached by two of the greatest players of this generation. Both Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce moved up on their team’s respective all-time scoring list this week, further padding their Hall Of Fame resumes with impressive marks. The Jeremy Lin show continued in New York City as the Harvard grad continued to show the promise he first displayed in the 2010 Summer League games, while Kevin Durant and the Thunder stopped a magnanimous effort by Monta Ellis, who dropped 48 points in a loss. Jeremy Scott has been doing the animal inspired thing for adidas Originals for a minute now, but if you’re looking for a pair without all kinda wild additions hanging off the edges, then the Kinetics x adidas Originals Superstar 80s ‘Animal’ might be the one for you. Showing up on a classic shell-toed silhouette, the design here is a bit of a cross-breed with the leopard print horse hair matched with the scaly snakeskin of the side stripes. 2011 was certainly a big year for this sort of safari’d out sneaker, so can models like the Kinetics x adidas Originals Superstar 80s ‘Animal’ help carry the trend in 2012? Size? x adidas Originals Rod Laver Vin Lux

It’s kinda nice to see a shoe with the vintage label without a bunch of yellowing and bruises busting up the clean look, isn’t it? The Size? x adidas Originals Rod Laver Vin Lux has a throwback feel what with the clean lines of this OG tennis silhouette, but it keeps the bar at a premium level with the canvas and suede combo. Breaking up the black pair a bit is some contrastive stitching, along with a few regal looking hits of gold toward the top of the shoe and on the adidas Originals branding on the insole.
