Nunca x Nike Air Max BW Gen II – Nike Sportswear Six Collection

Brazilian artist Nunca certainly didn’t go the obvious route with his contribution to the impressive Nike Sportswear Six Collection. Obvious would have been a yellow set of sneakers and gear with green and blue accents, or maybe a blue look like their alternate kit. Instead, this pack is all blacked out, and like the Dunk High ACs that we showed you last week, these Nike Air BW Gen IIs by Nunca have just a touch of green. The main design element on these is a white middle layer of Torch that peeks through the top layer of mesh on the BW Gen II’s goe and side panels. With it’s Torch-equipped, Free-Soled update getting alot of shine this spring, the Nike Air Classic BW takes the Big Window back to basics. This new release has the look of the Oakland Raiders, without all the mismanagement and apathy. These are more like Jack Youngblood than JaMarcus Russell, a firm anchor for your springtime fits. Nike Sportswear Six Collection – France – So Me – Spring / Summer 2010

When one thinks of the French going into battle, one might not expect much. But when it comes to football, France is not to be overlooked; They defeated the talented Brazil team in 1998 to capture the World Cup, led by French hero Zinedine Zidane, and went to the final in 2006, when Zidane caused some head-banging noise in a different way. Regardless of what transpired, France is again one of the teams in the mix for the World Cup Trophy this year. Rounding out the Nike Sportswear Six Collection is France, with a bundle of gear inspired by the French blue-white-red kit and designed by So Me, a renowned illustrator and art director. The mascot is taken after the mustached, beret-wearing stereotypical Frenchmen, while the the rest of the apparel takes after the French national flag. When one thinks of Brazil, he immediately thinks of yellow, green, and blue, the unforgettable color-combination of the Brazilian flag and of the nation’s football kit. With such a storied history in the sport, Nike has collaborated with Brazilian street artist Nunca to put his magic touch on a small collection of Nike Sportswear gear for its Six Collaboration. Nunca designed a crest that features five stars, representing Brazil’s record five FIFA World Cup Championships, and his hieroglyphic handwriting gives an archaelogic touch to a country that already has a storied ancient history. The most recent Bread & Butter tradeshow in Berlin gave us a sneak peek at a new Nike Air Classic BW. Looks like the clean mix of white and black with neptune blue accents was so dope, Nike added it to an upcoming Air Max 90 as well. Each pair has its own distinctive Air bubble cushion framed in the sapphire-like shade of blue, both of which look good enough that you might have a tough choice on your hands. We’ve been hearing alot about Nike’s new Torch fabric lately, and it’s finally ready to hit retail. It’s actually already in the cutting edge new Nike Zoom Kobe V, but these runners pictured above are the first publicized kicks featuring the three-layered mesh. This first Nike BW Gen II SI Max comes to us in a colourup we expected to be all-black. All of our previews were dark as night, and so is Nike’s style code. That means that the navy appearance in these photos might just be lighting, but then again, aren’t lights everywhere you go? If you’re brave enough to break the navy/black law, cop a pair from id4shoes on eBay.

Typifying Nike Sportswear’s Voltron approach to the Swoosh heritage, the Nike Air Max Modular 95 SI is set to hit the scene with massive social proof thanks to the granddaddy of all AM95 colourways. The Air Classic BW upper has a totally different style of tiering, but 95’s signature grey-dient is unmistakable.
