The ‘Chlorophyll’ colorway of the original Nike Air Trainer 1 is one that is almost always welcomed by sneakerheads when ported onto other models. This time around we see it make the jump to the Nike Air Classic BW, with the green hits remaining pretty minimal showing up on the Air Max detailing on the heel and outsole. Heck even without the rich background of the colorway, this pair could stand on its own as a pretty versatile model thanks to the grey’d out upper. Nike Air Classic BW – Black – Deep Royal – Dark Grey

Grey tones have been working so well on their own these past few years, why don’t we try infusing a couple into one of the established classics, both in name in stature? These aren’t exactly the beloved Persian Violets that stand out as the Nike Air Classic BW‘s signature colorway, but they do take the same basic colors and pattern, and apply a couple greys through the Big Window’s sweeping elliptical arc. We haven’t yet seen Nike Sportswear create a BW/Air Max 95 mashup, so this is about as close as you’ll get to combining those two icons’ best-known looks; are you glad to see this change or would you be down for another round of Persians? It’s not going to outnumber Air Max 1 or 95 releases, and most pairs can’t hold a candle to the limited releases we see when Nike Sportswear digs another forgotten classic out of their extensive running archives, but the Nike Air Classic BW performs admirably in its role as a fairly regular release rounding out the NSW classic lineup. The newest colorway for spring captures the anticipation of a verdant new world peeking out from under the winter snow, a white leather build that adds Court Green accents and a black Swoosh for a Beantown homer look that even Laker fans would have to admit came together quite nicely. Nike Air Classic BW – Black – Volt – White

It’s not seeing as many new releases these days as during the peak of its popularity a few years back, but if the Nike Air Classic BW wanted to show up in a bunch of new colorways as good as this one, we certainly wouldn’t mind. These new Big Windows highlight the upper’s distinctive lines with the high-contrast black/Volt combo anchored by a white Swoosh and heel stripe. The difference between the nylon tongue and collar, sockliner, top eylets, upper outline and signature Window gives these quite a bit more tonal depth than your average design with ‘just’ Volt accents, and you can see more of how it all fits together courtesy of some additional images after the jump. The original tag line for the debut of the Nike Air Max 1 was “Nike Air is not shoe”. Twenty-five years later, that notion holds true, because Air Max – aside from its performance value – has driven the sneaker game into collector madness with its classics taking the spotlight front and center. Our sneaker-friends over in Europe are already getting a taste of what’s to come from Nike Sportswear Air Max for 2012, and this one taste of this Air Classic BW in Mahogany should be enough to conclude that 2012 will be a huge year.
