It’s been so long since a new Big Window release that our Classics Revisited look into the 2003 Stash collabo was the last entry here on Sneaker News. Nike Sportswear rectifies that in time for the holiday shopping season with a new colorway familiar to all sneakerheads, as the Nike Air Classic BW returns in a bred getup along with just the right amount of Wolf Grey. This colorup and the inclusion of a patent leather Swoosh makes for some serious Air Jordan overtones, and you can examine this latest Air Classic BW after the jump before pre-ordering from Titolo.

Classics Revisited: Stash x Nike Air Classic BW (2003)

NIKE COLLABORATIONS WEEK

So we’ve covered a ton of major sneaker collaborations within all the categories we’ve touched on for Classics Revisited, but there are still a few heavy-hitting releases that haven’t found a place yet – until now. For this week, Classics Revisited will highlight five awesome sneaker collaborations with some of the most notable figures of that exclusive club, and what better way than to start with perhaps one of the best Air Max releases of all-time – the Stash x Nike Air Classic BW. This 2003 release would mark the beginning of a long-standing relationship between the Brooklyn-based Josh Franklin and Nike, resulting several releases similar to the iconic colorway seen here.

The first-ever Stash x Nike partnership was for Nike’s Artist Series, which gave hand-selected artists the opportunity to display their distinct qualities using classic Nike sneakers; Stash colored up the BW in what would prove to be one of the most iconic colorways in sneakerhead history, embroidering the tongue with his insignia and adding graffiti-styled insoles. The shoes were limited to just 1,000 pairs and were housed in a limited edition slide-out box, accompanied by a special hangtag. Each of the 1,000 released pairs were available only at select Niketown locations worldwide. Expect ‘Artist Series’ to be a common theme this week, so check out the Stash BWs after the jump and let us know if you’ve got these in your ‘stash’!

Nike Air Classic BW – Wolf Grey – Sport Red

A Euro favorite that keeps a relatively low profile in the Nike Sportswear lineup while never fading into obscurity like some of its former flagship brethren, the Nike Air Classic BW is back with a new colorway that should ship next month. These Wolf Grey Big Windows have a classic varsity look that hearkens back to a time just before the Air Max IV debuted in 1991, and their aggressive yet neutral styling has the kind of tightwire balance that can be useful for so many different kinds of outfits. Titolo has pairs available for pre-order now, so have a closer look below and let us know if these make the back-to-school shopping list.

Nike Air Classic BW – Black – Granite – Anthracite

Overlooked more than any of the other Nike Sportswear classic running ‘regulars’ other than maybe the Air Max Light, the Euro favorite Big Windows are back for another go-round. The Nike Air Classic BW has just arrived at select NSW retailers in a dark look that’s the visual opposite of the sunny weather we’re enjoying in the States. Their mix of black and Anthracite is similar to a Cool Grey-accented edition that released back in March, but this pair’s Granite midsole adds a bit of levity to an otherwise blacked-out design and sets these apart as a distinct new release. Have a closer look at the subtleties that make these unique after the jump below and grab yours from Titolo.

Nike Air Classic BW – Black – Anthracite – Dynamic Blue

The releases often end up being European exclusives, but there’s still been a healthy variety of new Nike Air Classic BW colorways during the first half of 2012. The latest is a pair previewed in advance of a release date scheduled for July, this FA12 BW opting for a dark mix of black and Anthracite with just a hint of Dynamic Blue peeking out from the sockliner. It’s a darker take on the tonal-grey-plus-pop formula we’ve seen used to great success in recent months; how do they compare to the white-based Old Royal-accented edition we’d just shown you? Let us know with a comment when you’re looking at more photos on the other side, then pre-order yours in advance of the Q3 drop date from Titolo.

Nike Air Classic BW – White – Ridgerock – Old Royal

2012 just might be a marquee year for the Nike Air Classic BW, with a pretty steady retro treatment in the mix for what is usually a pretty sparse model. On top of that the sneaker is sticking to its roots, a rare sight these days when so many of its Air Max brethren are caught up in Hyperfuse upgrades and the like. Next on tap is this old royal flavored colorway, a pair that looks pretty close to the Air Jordan X of the same name in terms of blocking, bringing in a bit more stony grey over the top to keep things unique. Stay with us after the jump for the complete view and if you like what you see then head over to Titolo to get this Nike Air Classic BW on pre-order now.

Nike Air Classic BW – White – Blue – Orange

In addition to the brand new VacTech variation that came onto the scene without so much as a single preview, the Nike Air Classic BW has shown us several looks this season that amount to new chapters in its twenty-one year story. New blocking patterns like the one pictured above prove that there are plenty of untapped combinations available for the Big Window, this latest pair adding another level of complexity thanks to its use of a novel two-tone mesh on the underlay and toe. It’s somewhat similar to the jolt of fresh energy the early ’90s Huaraches got from the unique toe materials on their recent Free-soled updates; should Nike Sportswear continue to push the boundaries that separate classic materials from newer synthetics that ostensibly have the upper hand when it comes to visual complexity? Let us know when you click through to see how this new look for a classic runner comes together and find them at select NSW stores like Germany’s Eliseev on eBay.
