Move over, Kanye/Kim, Jay-Z/Beyonce, and Wiz/Amber, because SNL funnyman Jason Sudeikis and rising big-screen star Olivia Wilde are moving up fast in the Celebrity Sneakerhead Couple power rankings! The couple was spotted shooting some hoops in Tribeca wearing some notable Nikes, and it’s clear that Olivia had the upper hand in this sneaker pairing as she wore the Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Hemp’ of 2004 (releasing on the famed 4/20 mark, which was also the last release of the ‘Hemp’ Pack). Jason kept it simpler by wearing the Navy/Red colorway of the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Omega Pack’ – a 2010 release. Leopard print combines a feral wilderness and a luxurious attitude – perfect for women, right? Although wildlife prints have become increasingly popular on the men’s side of fashion, this upcoming Leopard Pack of the Air Max 1 is strictly for the ladies; we first previewed the Leopard Pack in March, with this Black colorway side by side with the Dunk High, but it appears that there’s a Grey/Red colorway that will join ‘em for a sick one-two punch of releases. Combining suede, the leopard print, and rip-stop nylon at the toe-box, these WMNS releases will hit NSW accounts this Fall 2012 season (so fellas, get on the hunt for the bigger sizes!). The longstanding partnership between Liberty of London and Nike Sportswear is one whose look is imprinted on the minds of most sneakerheads by now: floral patterning and bright leaning colorways. As it turns out only half of that is really integral to the equation, as this stealthy pair of Nike Air Max 1 WMNS does indeed bear the flowery markings but does so via a rather ghostly palette. It appears that our ‘Classics Revisited’ segments have had a direct effect on our Sneaker News Blogs: WDYWT regulars, because three of the five Air Max 1s featured last week have popped up in this week’s Top 20! Furthermore, a sneakerhead out in the Netherlands shows us that he’s got the Air Force 1 game on complete lockdown, because three of his inclusions were worthy of this week’s twenty best (and we even left a couple out). This time around the look is ported over to a sneaker much more familiar with occupying the lifestyle category; the Nike Air Max 1. The Nike Air Max ‘Air Attack Pack’ of 2010 brought in five Air Max 1 bangers in tonal uppers, funky materials, and sleek colorways. This upcoming Black/Blue release can easily join that set as it features an all-black-everything vibe with mesh and synthetic suede on the upper and just the right hints of blue on the rear portion of the outsole and the uppermost lace eyelets. NIKE AIR MAX 1 WEEK

Finishing off this string of Air Max 1 collaborations is 2006′s partnership with legendary UK-based artist Ben Drury. Drury, who was world-renown for his extensive work in the music industry, composing the artwork for label Mo’Wax, first collaborated with Nike Sportswear in 2006 as part of the Tier Zero ‘Air U Breathe’ Pack, which featured the Air Max 1, Air Stab, and Air Max 360. His Air Max 1 design was inspired by the pirate radio scene in London, featuring a 3M reflective mudguard with black premium leather and the distinguishing pulsar stitch detailing on the heel as well as the custom insole, mimicking the strong signals of radio transmissions – a common theme in all of Drury’s work. ‘Hold Tight’ is derived from industry verbage when the words were barked out when something special was about to go down – whether it be an exhilarating ride at a theme park or a song from the radio. The Ben Drury x Nike Air Max 1 ‘Hold Tight’ also came accompanied with a matching t-shirt, bag, and Nike Windrunner jacket – all of which were distributed in limited quantities.

The five Air Max 1 classics shown these week are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cataloging the greatest Air Max 1s in history; with a wide library to cover, we chose to select five of the most dazzling colorways and thoughtful inspirations – and all just so happened to be collaborative efforts with artists and designers. The collaboration is a phenomenon that seems to occur less frequently than what we’d hope for because Nike has been pumping out some great designs in-house, but getting a unique, outside POV clearly results in something on a different plane of thought, does it not? We will continue our Classics Revisited feature next week with a whole new model, but you can certainly count on us coming back to the Air Max 1 because there’s plenty more to revisit.
