Nike Air Max 97 Hyperfuse ‘Dynamic Blue’

Nike Sportswear trotted out a series of Hyperfuse-constructed classics last summer, and perhaps the single model most conspicuous by its absence was the Air Max 97. A swooping synthetic-based runner whose design was so far ahead of its time they still look totally fresh, the Ninety-Sevens are probably the most technical of all the Air Max running classics and represent the smoothest transition yet into Fuse-ing. The Nike Air Max 97 Hyperfuse pictured above in Dynamic Blue looks like it could have dropped in 2010′s ‘Air Attack Pack’ as well as resembling the recent ‘Soar’ CVS 97s, connections that continue to reinforce how (literally) seamlessly this silo has slid into a new fabrication method. Nike Air Max 97 CVS – Volt + Soar

The original Air Max 97 design was entirely cast in synthetics, the first such departure from traditional leathers and suedes after models like the Air Max 1, 90 and 95 came equipped with those old school defaults. That means it’s closer to today’s Hyperfuse hybrids without warranting an upgrade, and this unique position has the AM97 poised for a victory lap in a decidedly casual form. The Nike Air Max 97 CVS gets back to the roots of athletic shoe manufacturing with a simple single-colored canvas upper contrasted by a white sole, but the nearly no-sew heat-bonded construction and that sole’s full-length Max Air cushion leave these feeling modern and technically proficient. Approaching the fifteenth birthday for its original colorway in July, Nike Sportswear has just trotted out the latest variation on a former flagship runner whose sleek style can be seen as a precursor to today’s synthetic-heavy Air Max runners. And yet, the Nike Air Max 97 CVS looks equally impressive in its own right, a canvas-uppered take on a model most famous for its ‘Silver Bullet’ and ‘Gold Medal’ OGs that’s managed to perfectly match today’s trends with a Volt upper/white sole design that has a match in the also-anniversary-approaching Air Max 1, which just hit NSW stores in a Cyber twill getup. Nike Air Max 97 CVS ‘Soar’

Nike Sportswear will introduced a lighter, sleeker, and more refined version of the Air Max 97 very soon, but is it an all-season shoe? The Air Max 97 CVS (not to be confused with a collaboration with the corner drug-store) features a canvas upper with a bonded applique that outlines the trademark running-track design of the 97, and should arrive in several colorways with ‘tonal’ uppers, like this Soar blue rendition that is slated to hit stores this May. We’ve already witnessed the release of the daring ‘Sport Red’ this month, but if Blue tones are more your vibe, the wait for these isn’t too long because Crooked Tongues has a pre-buy up right now. The idea of a high-tech runner being built from canvas probably doesn’t seem like the best one on paper, but with the Nike Air Max 97 being long-since removed from its context as a performance sneaker its definitely fair game at this point for a bit of material mashup. The result is actually surprisingly natural looking, no doubt due in part to the solidly blocked releases that make up the range like the ‘Sport Red’ shown here. Fortunately for our stateside readers, this sneaker has touched down on American soil as of now and can be had at fine retailers like Oneness. Nike Air Max 97 CVS – Black

It’s not quite on the level of, say, creating an Air Foamposite One from denim, but applying canvas to the Air Max 97′s swooping lines isn’t exactly the most obvious transition for this fifteen year veteran. Then again, we have seen its distinctive full-length Max Air cushion successfully paired with the Jordan CMFT series, so perhaps taking the AM97 in a more casual route is indeed the most logical next step. Enter the Nike Air Max 97 CVS, a new debut for the summer season that’s just about to hit retailers in tonal styles like this black pair pictured above.
