Just as the Hyperfuse edition showed, this new Engineered Mesh update proves once again that the Air Max 97 deserves praise for being ahead of its time. Just look at how seamlessly it integrates the new lightweight ventilation on the Nike Air Max 97 EM, with a ‘Silver Bullet’ colorway perhaps the most natural extension yet of the soon to be sixteen year-old silo and the forthcoming purplish Blackend Blue edition with ticked laces to match the trail-ish speckled midsole. This new look has a ’600K’ note on the sockliner that might tie it in with a Brazilian race Nike has sponsored in recent years, but the timing based on previous events isn’t a perfect match for these January releases, so stay tuned for more details. Familiar and fresh further intermingle in more photos after the jump and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for release info on these 2013 AM97EMs.

The best way to ring in a new year is sharing a kiss with your beloved, and Nike Sportswear will extend that into a humongous hug the likes of which legends are made. The Nike Air Max OG Pack brings together the original styles from NSW’s four most frequently released retro runners, with the Nike Air Max 1 and AM90 adding VNTG (or OG, in this case) treatments to their red-accented designs while the more advanced Air Max 95 and 97 show their relative age with more pristine builds. A quartet of colorways no serious sneakerhead should be without, these Air Max classics are scheduled for a December 31st release, so be sure to stick with Sneaker News for updates throughout the holiday season.

A ranking of the 100 best Swooshed-out kicks in history is quite the heady undertaking, but you can be confident that the collective of sneaker-crazed minds that put this beast of a list together know their stats. The folks at Complex plus a few other respected hobbyists carefully ranked the best Nikes from one to the century mark, and like any list of ‘bests’, readers are bound to hiss and boo (or even tilt their heads in confusion – some of the stuff in here is from deep in the archives). We’ve picked out a representative from each tier of 10s, so check out what stood out to us and hit up Complex for the entire feature.

Joining its OG Air Max brethren in the EM transformation is the Air Max 97 in the standard ‘Silver Bullet’ colorway. The 97s have displayed the most unique use of Engineered Mesh, serving as the primary base of the shoe (which, we should mentioned, was already a mesh material) with a distinct pattern giving the ‘performance’-anchored design an unprecedented visual appeal. Like all the other Air Max EM models, the ‘Silver Bullet’ 97 EM is headed for a release this January at retailers worldwide, so flip through the detailed gallery below for a better look and let us know if you think Engineered Mesh on the 97 is a good fit.

The Air Max 97 is already Nike Sportswear’s most mesh-heavy classic runner, so pairing this track-inspired design with even more breathable speed is only going to make it better. The Nike Air Max 97 Premium pictured above features Nike’s all new Engineered Mesh material that, like the leather tracks that surround it, are dipped in the purplish Blackend Blue shade. The shift to a more dynamic mesh along with two-tone ticked laces and a speckled midsole gives these quite a lot of depth for what is on paper a simple purple/white design, and you can see more photos below for this February 2013 release.

“History of Air” is getting a bit of an unofficial revisiting in 2013 as news of the Silver Bullet 97s are confirmed for a release this January. For those not familiar, Nike embarked on a retrospective of its most iconic Air Max models as part of a celebratory gesture for the Air Max 360; since then, the Silver Bullet Air Max 97s were released a few more times, and this January ’13 release means that Nike intends for these original Air Maxes (like the Neon 95) to be on everyone’s feet. If you already have a pair, you can afford to pass on this release, but for those lacking, keep your eye out for these this coming January.

Italy is responsible for arguably the most stunning pair of Nike Air Max 97s ever released, a luxurious leather build limited to just under 1700 pairs. This latest AM97 release is constructed in a somewhat more familiar form mixing patent leather and mesh, but its tri-striped tongue and heel loops pull the black/white design toward the Mediterranean boot-shaped country with equal parts red, white and green. These aren’t individually numbered but figure to still be a tough cop for US sneakerheads as a Foot Locker Europe exclusive, so have a closer look below and let us know if you’re able to import a pair.
