Among the reasons the Air Max+ 2009 is considered a modern classic is its pioneering use of a totally uncaged full-length Max Air unit. This innovation can be seen as the culmination of decades of work, starting with Frank Ruby’s original encapsulated Air bubbles, Tinker’s Air Max 1 ‘mistake’ and another leap represented by the silhouette pictured above. 2006′s Air Max 360 (I) was the first to give us Max Air from heel to toe in just a single airbag, so it’s particularly interesting to see that model’s upper paired with the advanced cushion for which it was a stepping stone. Nike Air Max 97 Hyperfuse ‘Dynamic Blue’

Nike Sportswear trotted out a series of Hyperfuse-constructed classics last summer, and perhaps the single model most conspicuous by its absence was the Air Max 97. A swooping synthetic-based runner whose design was so far ahead of its time they still look totally fresh, the Ninety-Sevens are probably the most technical of all the Air Max running classics and represent the smoothest transition yet into Fuse-ing. The Nike Air Max 97 Hyperfuse pictured above in Dynamic Blue looks like it could have dropped in 2010′s ‘Air Attack Pack’ as well as resembling the recent ‘Soar’ CVS 97s, connections that continue to reinforce how (literally) seamlessly this silo has slid into a new fabrication method. You didn’t forget about the Nike Total Griffey Max ’99 did you? The model started off the year pretty strong with a handful of releases popping up in the first couple of months, only to suddenly disappear as winter faded away. If there’s any colorway that can get your attention again though this is it, a white based pair with a supporting cast of colors that has it looking quite ‘Grape’ like. The recent ‘What the Max’ drop showed off the Nike Air Max+ 95 360‘s incredible capacity for intricate colorblocking, its tiered look the next logical step from the mass of gradient designs that continue to typify the original AM95 silhouette. Take that step in a slighty different direction, and you end up with a design like this new Air Max 95 BB, one that sees new potential in the upper’s distinct ‘ribs’ thanks again to the power of Hyperfuse construction. So instead of a gradient marking the entire length of ‘muscle fibers’, these grey and Volt 95 360s apply a fade to each of the neon columns laid atop a base that offers a grey-dient in its own right. Celebrity Feet: Jason Sudeikis & Olivia Wilde in NYC Park

Move over, Kanye/Kim, Jay-Z/Beyonce, and Wiz/Amber, because SNL funnyman Jason Sudeikis and rising big-screen star Olivia Wilde are moving up fast in the Celebrity Sneakerhead Couple power rankings! The couple was spotted shooting some hoops in Tribeca wearing some notable Nikes, and it’s clear that Olivia had the upper hand in this sneaker pairing as she wore the Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Hemp’ of 2004 (releasing on the famed 4/20 mark, which was also the last release of the ‘Hemp’ Pack). Jason kept it simpler by wearing the Navy/Red colorway of the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Omega Pack’ – a 2010 release.
