Earlier this month RE/CREATE New York launched a charitable platform for which creators and artists could donate some of their productions for auction, with proceeds going directly to the New York Cares organization. A standout of the collection of items was a pair Air Yeezy 2s in the Black/Solar Red colorway that were worn and signed by hip-hop mega-star Kanye West; with a charitable cause at focus of this incredible auction, we predict the final bidding price on this item to be far greater than any sneaker auction we’ve already seen – and it’s already on its way to some incredible numbers. Many of our readers compared the newly unveiled Nike Zoom Revis to the original Yeezy thanks to location of the mid-foot strap and Swoosh on the heel. With that said, a ‘Yeezy’ custom of the Revis was bound to happen, and it looks like JP Custom Kicks has beaten everyone to the punch (or at least put his works up for viewing) before anyone else; he transforms the Nike Zoom Revis in the ‘Cool Grey’ colorway after the two Air Yeezy 2 releases (the Black/Solar Red and Pure Platinums) while giving the midsole – not the outsole – a glow in the dark treatment. The Nike Air Yeezy 2 already stands as one of the hardest to find sneakers out there on the secondary market thanks to the frenzy that their limited release this summer whipped up. Registering as even more coveted for any Kanye West fan is this autographed pair (and worn by ‘Ye) of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 ‘Solar Red’. The pair features his signature across the scaly side panel along with a curious little drawing in the same silver marker (cue the Illuminati symbol speculation). For better or worse, 2012 was a defining year for the sneaker world and all that it encompasses. It was a year that saw certain shoes throw the laws of supply and demand so out of whack, that brands and retailers had to completely rethink the way they sell shoes to the public just to keep the peace. If you were willing to put in some legwork or, better yet, had the right connections, it was a banner year for sneaker enthusiasts. “Must-have” releases seemed to be at an all-time high and nearly every weekend offered up some sort of temptation for consumers. 2012 saw the release of some of the most eagerly anticipated and passionately sought-after sneakers the game had ever seen and it’s safe to say that things will never be the same again.
In between those, there were plenty of other desirable targets along the way, from the special limited editions and collaborations to beloved Retro returns and promising new designs and innovations. There were even a few certified sleeper hits that organically carved out their place among the year’s best releases. Due to an exponentially expanding consumer base and a heightened level of product awareness, you might not have been able to get your hands on every shoe you hunted for in 2012, but there was certainly no shortage of solid alternatives ripe for the picking in their absence.
