If you’ve been paying attention to Ronnie Fieg’s Asics output for a while then you should recognize this Asics Gel Lyte III sample that he pulled out today. The olive and orange pair was sampled up a couple of years ago and dubbed the Asics Gel Lyte III ‘Mossad’. While they never had a proper release, there was a pair given away on Twitter when they first surfaced. The quarter-century mark has been an well-emphasized milestone for pretty much anything that’s lasted that long. 2012 served as the perfect podium for several 1987 classics, and this year, we should expect more of the same – that is, in terms of Retro releases that originated in ’88. Complex took the time to count down their 25 faves from that heralded year, which include the Nike Air Revolution, the original Asics Gel Runner, the Nike Air Tech Challenge, the New Balance 1500, and of course, the Air Jordan III. Another pair of Asics’ split-tongued classic drops tomorrow – this time in the form of the powerhouse Gel Lyte III designed by Slam Jam of Italy. Taking on a two-toned colorway of yellow and bright green, these GL3s are sure to set the pace for all the exciting 2013 Asics releases in both GR and collab form. Starting in the fall, the running brand will be bringing back a handful of silhouettes that have not been seen in some time, with the Asics Gel Lyte V pictured here among them. The 2013 lineup of Asics releases is one that will really test how deep your average sneaker consumer’s Asics knowledge runs. One of the many models that will be up for grabs is the Asics GT-COOl, a 1991 runner that gets a feq quick tweaks for this updated version. Fans of Asics’ ancient runners have quite the reason to celebrate in 2013 thanks to the return of the Asics Gel Lyte V model. The 1993 silhouette doesn’t look to be hitting retailers until the Fall of 2013, but from the previews we’ve seen they will be well worth the wait. The pair is more straightforward runner fare then what you’re used to with the Asics Gel Lyte III, what has no doubt become to go to retro silo for fans of the Tiger Stripes. Asics has been very deliberate in excavating their archives for retro goodies. The Gel Saga has been back in rotation for a little over a year, which followed the GT-II’s return, whose stage was in turn set by the success of iconic Gel Lyte III. Now we’re about to be blessed with another from that lineage, as we jump from 1990′s beloved GLIII to the Asics Gel-Lyte V that debuted three years later. A design of its time as signaled by the Grape/Aqua-ish palette, this OG colorway is slated to arrive on store shelves for the third quarter; do you now have a new top back-to-school pick? The revered footwear retailer known for its outstanding sneaker collaborations put on quite a show at the Project Trade Show in NYC yesterday as they previewed a sampling of their 2013 sneaker collaborations. Working with the likes of Nike, adidas, Onitsuka Tiger, New Balance, and Reebok, atmos has once again showcased their talents by putting out some creative designs without any hints of redundancy or predictability.
