A Bathing Ape Bapesta Canvas Spring 2010

A Bathing Ape is back with two new colourways of their Bape Sta that was all the rage during the earlier half of this decade. We don’t need to mention the blueprint behind this Bape model, do we? Both colourways, one red and the other a dark navy on the midsoles, employ a pure-white canvas upper with tri-toned heel pull tab and Bape-print shoelaces. Perfect for the July 4th weekend? Hopefully they will arrive by then. Check your A Bathing Ape retailers soon. via HS.

bape bathing ape bape sta mid leather 1 A Bathing Ape 2010 SpringSummer BAPE STA MID

A Bathing Ape has been notorious for their unabashed use of established ideas and media icons for their line of footwear and apparel – the Nike Air Force 1 silhouette being the first that comes to mind. This time the crew over at the Bape camp decided to combine the AF1 Mid with another classic that was the Euro-rocker craze of the 70s (and later on the feet of high-schoolers in the 90s). Check out this trio of new colourways of the Bape Sta Mid, inspired by the Doc Marten boot; the yellow stitching on the midsole and deep and rich-colored leather uppers being the points of interest. Each pair has a elongated height-wise heel-tab that spans the entire rear of the shoe, reading ‘APE SHALL NEVER KILL APE’. These are available now at select A Bathing Ape stores now. via HB.

Classics Revisited: A Bathing Ape x Adidas Super Ape Star Camo

In 2003, sneaker culture was maturing along with the growth of sneaker websites. Information and news on the latest in sneakers were hard to come by, with just a small handful of sources. Among them were Being Hunted, Crooked Tongues, RTHQ, Fatlace, Fixins and Niketalk. Sneaker boutiques didn’t have blogs and most didn’t even have a website, so most sneakerheads turned to Niketalk to find and share news. LeBron James was set to play his first game in November of that year, sneaker releases were generally unannounced, collaborations were rare, Mark Smith started lasering images onto sneakers, and a little known site called Freshness slowly infiltrated New York and the rest of the world covering sneakers, toys and streetwear.

That same year, A Bathing Ape and adidas did a surprising collaboration together and released two styles in three colorways each and limited them to 500 pairs each. The most sought after release is the above Bape Camo adidas x A Bathing Aple Super Ape Star, the other style being the Super Ape Skate.

A Bathing Ape Bapesta 88 Mid Leopard Spring 2010

After A Bathing Ape had a relatively quiet 2009, the Japanese-born urban apparel and footwear line is set to make some more noise in 2010 with their newly designed shoe model titled the Bapesta 88 Mid Leopard, which debuted in March of 2009. The camouflage-like prints, Bapesta logo on the outer toe, and in-your-face branding on the tongue definitely kicks up the volume a few notches, and overall structure of the shoe, reminiscent of the Adidas Forum Mid, gives it a classic feel. Two colourways of these Spring 2010 releases are now available via overseas purchase at CliffEdge, so grab your pair while they last.

Devilock x Bape Skullsta

While A Bathing Ape’s presence on American street fashionistos has diminished, Nigo and company are still making the most out of bright, cartoonish designs.  The latest Bape Skullsta is completely covered in Devilock-designed faces that kinda remind us of the Ice Cream logo (Nigo and Pharrell are pretty tight, after all), except for the white, Superstar-like toe cap.  These are available now from Eproze.

Last Orgy 2 (A Bathing Ape) + NOWHERE (UNDERCOVER) Bapesta Skullstas

Collaboration between brands is a foreign idea to almost all other fashion and marketing niches, but have become pretty much common place for those involved in streetwear and footwear.  But in this time of recession, collabs have surpassed it’s initial intent, becoming a way to bring in money exclusively to those involved in the product’s objective.  Not so much for these Bapesta Skullstas.  A Bathing Ape’s Nigo and UNDERCOVER’s Jun Takahashi came together to commemorate their hard work, branding the shoes with the movements created before their current empires- Last Orgy 2 and NOWHERE, respectively.  A three-pack of common color scheme, these are expected to drop January 2nd.

WTAPS x A Bathing Ape URSUS Bapesta

A Bathing Ape’s URSUS Bape collection debuted this fall, marking the first set of designs from WTAPS head and new Bape lead designer Tet.  The collection has centered around some interesting fonts paired with an old hotrod graphic that has popped up in a few places, along with a few others that have the look of modernized classic Americana.  And URSUS has added their touch to the Bapesta lowtop, although modernized might not be the best descriptor for the change.  Mostly, it’s a stitched side panel that has these looking different from any of the other high-contrast Bapestas we’ve seen before.  Grab yours from Cliff Edge.  via HB

A Bathing Ape Bapesta Tiger Black

Much to the delight of fans of the brand, A Bathing Ape just keeps coming up with fresh new looks for the Bapesta. At first glance, this version keeps things pretty simple, but a closer look will reveal some subtle stylish touches. The shoe sports a black on black patent leather upper with the tonal theme following through all the way down to the midsole and outsole. Other than the white tongue label, the only accents come by way of the metallic silver and red illustration that is placed diagonally on the rear section of the upper. If you like what you see here, you can grab a pair now from the Bape online store.

Ghostbusters x A Bathing Ape (Bape) Bapesta

With Nike collaborating on a couple of packs to promote the Transformers sequel, your author is glad his second favourite toys from the 80s didn’t get overlooked.  Commemorating the original film’s 25th anniversary, the Ghostbusters x A Bathing Ape Bapesta collection comes in the two most logical colourways: red and white.  Each is emblazoned with the ‘No Ghost’ emblem on the outer heel and heel tab, while the simple red and white colourways stay true to the film.  The box is white, with a depiction of Baby Milo driving the Ecto-1.  These are available from Bape Land and select Bape chapter stores in Japan.  Other Bathing Ape retailers should receive them over the next few weeks.  via FRESHNESS

UNDERCOVER x A Bathing Ape NOWHERE Exclusive Camo Lowtops

Jun Takahashi’s UNDERCOVER has their own line of lowtops and is well known for their fragment design collabos on the Nike Match Classic.  Here’s another lowtop collabo that brings in a third party.  The UNDERCOVER x BAPE lowtop pictured above is exclusive to London’s NOWHERE store, as indicated on the Jack Purcell-like toe cutaway.  The green camoflauge upper looks great with white contrast stitching and a white sole.  These should be available at NOWHERE very soon.  via HB

A Bathing Ape (Bape) Roadsta 16th Anniversary Pack

Instead of buying them a car, how about copping a pair of these patent leather eye-poppers?  In commemoration of the company’s 16th anniversary, A Bathing Ape is releasing a pack of Roadstas that are bright as all get-out.  Quintessentially colourful, these joints mix a variety of hues in different combinations for a pack that feels cohesive but allows each pair to shine on its own.  Nigo just announced he’s stepping down as president of Bape to focus on designing for them and Ice Cream/BBC, and if you’re near one, step on down to your local Bape chapter store to cop these now.  via HB

A Bathing Ape Bapesta Sparkly Patent Leather

‘Toned-down’ and ‘Bape’ probably aren’t words that you’d associate together.  Well, these latest pairs, relative to their legacy, are just that.  Still featuring bright patent leather with a sparkly coat, these two-toned A Bathing Ape Bapestas are about as subdued as the Japanese brand gets.  Each features a translucent speckled sole that isn’t exactly ‘Icey’, but looks nifty nonetheless.  You can cop these now at any Bape Chapter Store.  via HB

A Bathing Ape Shoe Trees Nigo Exclusive

Sneakers *are* important . . . so much so that even though you can’t have these, we know you’ll wanna see em.  Perfect for keeping Bapestas or any other shoe in his surely massive collection in pristine shape, A Bathing Ape founder Nigo commissioned the building of these transparent shoe trees and posted them to his Honeyee blog.  Just like his collection of Kaws paintings, you can eat your heart out trying to get some.  Who knows, maybe a ton of internet chatter will push Bape to a wide release; surely the chances are better than getting your own x-eyed Simpsons print.
