The Ewing Athletics line is one dominated by the blue and orange of the New York Knicks, a notion that should come as a surprise to no one given that Pat himself was definitely one of the greatest to ever call the Garden his home. With that being said, the company was never afraid to stray from the equation, knowing full well that they needed to get the sneakers on the feet of folks who weren’t necessarily rooting for the Knicks. As a result, you had a pretty wide array of colors hitting on the Ewing Athletics releases both then and now, as proven by old catalog scans and whatever other images of the originals have been floating around over the last two decades.
The forthcoming black and red Ewing Focus reissue is one that will remain reasonably true to its original. Yes, it is an original colorway – as the Ewing Athletics group recognized back then that such a colorup would likely be a good look in an NBA era of Bulls dominance (Keep in mind that Pat sported the home and away “Knicks” versions during the 1992-93 season). Shown here is the 2013 Ewing Focus retro in black/red alongside the counterpart OG version, with the only substantial difference between the two being the logo coloring on the tongue. Are we looking at the last Nike LeBron X Elite colorway that will hit stores? There haven’t been any other confirmed for release, so it’s certainly a possibility. But then again LeBron’s chances of grabbing another chip this year are looking pretty decent, and we couldn’t imagine Nike Basketball letting the opportunity to drop another championship-celebrating shoe fly by. Nike’s commitment to the growth of women’s basketball has been well-established for many years, as they’ve partnered up with the game’s legends in Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie, and Sheryl Swoopes early on and sponsored the WNBA at its debut. A dedicated effort by Nike combined with stellar play and global influence by the “Big Three” of women’s hoops has forged incredible growth in the sport over the years, but a rather energetic boost in 2013 thanks to three young phenoms has brought a new level of excitement to the game. Brittney Griner, Elena Delle Donne, and Skylar Diggins were selected first, second, and third in this year’s WNBA draft, and while we can expect to hear their names throughout the current season, there’s no doubt that the names of Griner, Delle Donne, and Diggins – the new “Big Three” of women’s basketball – will be echoed throughout the next generation of the sport.
Currently, Griner, Delle Donne, and Diggins are letting their names be known with their elite game, but we at Sneaker News have taken extra notice as we’ve covered their various in-game Nike Player Exclusives. Their reputation as the newest “Big Three” in the sport and with Nike has suited them well, with Griner and Delle Donne balling in the Nike Zoom Hyperdisruptor and Diggins rocking the Nike Kobe 8, but we’re left to wonder if any of these future superstars has the potential to be a Nike Basketball signature sneaker – the first since Sheryl Swoopes and the Nike Air Swoopes. After a puzzling appearance above the border in late May, the ‘Blitz Blue’ Nike Kobe 8 looks to be on track for its US release date. Our latest look at this Kobe 8 System colorway reveals how red the often orange-leaning Total Crimson accents can appear depending on the environment. The Swooshes in particular catch the eye with a burst of light blue behind them, making for a great summertime colorway. The Blitz Blue Kobe 8 will arrive at select Nike Basketball retailers Saturday, June 29th (same day as the next Sneaker Con Miami), but you can buy now from that-feel-good on eBay.

One of the final Nike Kobe 8 colorways to come around has finally manifested itself. The shoe is a mixture of challenge red, reflective silver, team orange, and electro orange that looks rather like a reverse version of one of the previous “Year of the Snake” combinations. The Jordan Super.Fly 2 figures to make an impact on the 2013-14 basketball season with Blake Griffin and select colleges turning to Jordan Brand’s answer to the Nike Basketball’s Hyperdunk. This one skips a LA Clippers or any university colorway in favor of the look that’s most strongly associated with the Jumpman. The black and Bright Crimson edition is right in line with the classic Chicago Bulls playoff look, and though we’re right at the peak of the NBA postseason right now, these will wait for the third quarter for a release date. The Nike LeBron X “MVP” was a sneaker that just barely had a retail release. What we mean by that is that the shoes released only in a handful of spots across the US, with each of the retailers carrying them going the raffle route for purchase.
