It’s strange how sneakers mature in accordance with age in a human-like manner. When the Nike Air Force 1 debuted thirty years ago, it was considered to be a revolutionary basketball shoe, giving birth to a new era of Air-infused performance basketball shoes. When the AF1 hit the ‘teens, it became a staple in the wardrobe of the younger cats who were interested in looking fresh at all times. In the 2000′s, when the Air Force 1 entered adulthood, sneaker connoisseurs treated the Air Force 1 like a fine wine, distinguishing one from another by age, taste, design, and materials, making the Air Force 1 as much of a collectible item as it was a wearable shoe. So what’s in store for the Nike Air Force 1, now that it’s thirty years old? Will we see a continuance of the crazy collaborations that we saw in its 20′s, or will the Air Force 1 take a more lifestyle approach, emphasizing the use of lux materials and the grown-up appeal? Then again, is there even a purpose behind pointing out the age of something immortal?
We’ll find out soon enough what 2012 will mean for the Air Force 1, but take it from Vandal-A, who has long since expressed their fandom of sneakers through their line of graphic t-shirts, that the Air Force 1 ‘fiend’ is still alive and well. The latest offering from the brand features the Air Force 1, with inspiration drawn from Eric B. & Rakim’s ‘Don’t Sweat The Technique’ album cover and the classic ‘Microphone Fiend’ track. In addition to this new design, Vandal-A’s also got something great for the Laker fans – an image of a swagged-out fur-coated Magic Johnson from the ’88 All-Star Game, and for the Jordan-heads, a sweatshirt version of the mega-hit Concord Troopers t-shirt that dropped last month. Check out the latest selection from Vandal-A below and hit up the online store to get your own.

Haroshi’s trademark look is inevitably a colorful thanks to his trademark material selection of recycled skateboard decks. So when the triple team of Haroshi, DLX, and HUF got together for the footwear portion of their collaboration, you expect the resulting pair to be on the bright side of things. Quite the opposite, with this special edition of the Hufnagel Pro going for a tonal concrete gray tone on the suede upper. Remnants of Haroshi’s influence are certainly present though, with the insole boasting a snapshot of his work and the fire hydrant emblem on the heel area being a nod to one of his sculptures from the accompanying show. Fortunately for you, the sneakers can be had online now at Premier. Hit them up to grab a pair before they’re gone after you check out the full photos we’ve got after the jump.

In 2011, Nike solidified its commitment to increase the ‘green’ effort by utilizing more sustainable materials and doubling its use of recycled polyester, using approximately 440 million PET plastic bottles. It’s alarming to think that the bottle of spring water you drank months ago is now part of a college basketball jersey – it might’ve even been on the court of the 2011 Carrier Classic! This morning, in a special media event in New York City, Nike unveiled the Hyper Elite Platinum Basketball uniforms – a high-performance uniform system for the nation’s premier collegiate-level ballers that touches on a broader, more significant global mission of environmental efficiency. The Hyper Elite Platinum uniforms are engineered for optimal performance, with a super-lightweight construction, bonded seams, reflective materials and a super-sleek platinum design providing an on-the-court visual masterpiece that’ll surely stir up the oohs and aahs from college basketball spectators.
State of the art fabrics like Nike Sphere and Nike Aerographics provide structural support and allow for full range of motion, with laser perforations and four-way stretch woven design giving the shorts an unparalleled comfort and style. You can expect the Nike Hyper Elite Platinum Basketball Uniforms to go live in late January on select Nike-outfitted colleges like Arizona, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, Syracuse, UConn, UNC, Baylor (women’s), and UConn (women’s) – nine teams that have all won National Championships while proudly donning the Swoosh. In addition to the uniforms, Nike presented the all-new Nike Zoom Hyperenforcer, which combines the revolutionary Flywire support with the game-changing Hyperfuse material. Check out this first-hand viewing of the Nike Hyper Elite Platinum Basketball Uniforms and the special launch event in New York City and stick with Sneaker News for more updates on Nike Basketball’s latest product technology, footwear, and apparel.

It only happens a few times each year, so you know when Sneaker News turns our attention to cutting edge tennis shoes, we’re getting close to a Grand Slam event. The Australian Open is the first of the four major tournaments each year, and Nike’s sending two of the top three men, two of the top five ladies and two up and comers in fresh new gear. Arguable GOAT and four-time Aussie winner Roger Federer gets a Swiss-style kit along with neon accents on his Nike Zoom Vapor Tour 9, while arch nemesis Rafael Nadal opts for green on his shirt but more of a focus on bright blue with the latest Air Max Courtballistec 4.3. Young Croation Bernard Tomic proved with his upset of the 22 seed in Round 1 that he’s deserving of recognition if not yet a signature sneaker, as is the case for ladies 5-seed Na Li. Nike keeps the WMNS side on equal footing thanks to a new Air Max Mirabella 3 for Serena Williams along with Maria Sharapova’s Lunar Speed 3 lowtops. That whole thing about the Nike Air Force 1 Low being perhaps the least imrpessive of the Nike ‘Year of the Dragon’ collection in terms of packaging — you can throw that right out the window. And taking nowthing away from the ‘AF1-XXX’ box and the dragon-emblazoned version we’ve seen, but the Air Jordan 2012 and the Zoom Kobe VII YOTD editions each come in some of the best boxes we’ve seen, maybe ever. But this special edition wooden box for the AF1 might turn out to be the nicest of them all, a dark stained beauty with intricate carved brass symbols on the lid, and not only does it come with the shoes, but also a matching Destroyer Varsity Jacket to create the kind of package that’s going to see some otherworldly resale prices. Click through to see this regal set in all its glory and stick with Sneaker News for word on when they will arrive at select Chinese Nike Sportswear retailers. via FRESHNESS

Haroshi made his mark on the sneakerhead scene in late 2010 when Mark Parker was photographed holding the Nike Dunk High crafted from the Japanese artist’s medium of coicee: stacked and carved skateboard decks. This signature multicolor ministripe motif has now carried over into what’s gotta be HUF’s best non-Nike collaboration to date, and one that shows that Keith Hufnagel’s namesake label is still up and running strong despite the closure of their Cali storefonts. This project brings HUF and Haroshi together with Bay Area skateboard distributors DLX triple up to bring us some crazy sculptures along with the HUF Hufnagel Pro with an impressive insole, along with a variety of apparel celebrating DLX’s various brands. Click through to see more of the Hufnagel Pro, including its Real Skateboards tie-in on the heels, and grab your selections straight from HUF before they’re all gone.
