Although they’re almost just as well-known for the frustratingly small numbers with which these products hit retail, Berlin’s Solebox is synonymous with high-profile sneaker collaborations. Over the course of a decade, this German boutique that’s recently become known for its light-up retro kicks has authored roughly one new colorway per quarter, for a massive total that approaches forty when you consider variations like the (un-)branded GITG Asics Gel Lyte III. Solebox has a way with the GLIII and its classic running peers, the New Balance 1500 a clear favorite in much the same way that Solebox has struck up a long-term relationship with Saucony. Check out a few of the highlights of a decade of brillianceafter the jump, let us know how they compare to your favorite guest designer’s legacy and check out the full gallery at Solebox.

Converse and UNDFTD is a duet we should definitely hear lots and lots about in the coming years. However, up until this point, most of their work has been focused on Converse’s sport heritage models – the Pro Leathers, the Weapons, etc.; with that said, this latest unveiling of the UNDFTD for Converse Jack Purcell capsule covers even more ground as it touches on the clean Lifestyle sector with this upcoming Converse First String release. Arriving in three colorways (red, white, black) anchored by navy/red racing stripes on the midsole, the UNDFTD x Converse Jack Purcell should easily nudge its way into all sneaker rotations this Summer – it’s just got that undeniable ‘ease’ to it. Collect these at select Converse and Converse First String accounts beginning this Friday, May 25th, at $55 a pair.

Nike’s Lunaracer sole was one of the enduring images from the last year in which a Summer Olympiad was held, its pronounced waves and wide platform a visual can’t-miss that helped to spur LunarLite and its -Lon update to great success in the intervening years. And as we approach the London Games, you can be sure there are even more technological advancements in this space age foam cushioning, but one division of Nike, Inc. will be sticking with what works. Combining a time-tested boot design with that unmistakable cushion, the Cole Haan LunarGrand Chukka is a look into the evolution of footwear, specifically how traditional styles are blending with modern technology with increasing frequency. Longtime Nike collaborator Hiroshi Fujiwara had a few words of praise along with a couple new photos on his blog; were you able to find the exact combination of color and size you wanted from the Cole Haan SoHo drop earlier this month?

Didn’t we already see a Nike SB Dunk Mid covered in Bill Jordan’s Realtree Camo prints? Longtime Sneaker News readers will be able to point you back to October 2010 when Dunks and Bruins dropped featuring unique camouflage prints, and now here comes a couple of new drops with more than a passing resemblance. The Realtree x Thrasher Buchanan Dog looks so familiar because this mita sneakers x Kicks Lab collaboration applies a similar print to lines that are clearly inspired by the Dunk lineage (and its imitators). Like all the Thrasher kicks so far, these will be hard to find in the US; will you make the effort to import them after seeing more images below? Photos: mita sneakers

NIKE AIR MAX 1 WEEK
Finishing off this string of Air Max 1 collaborations is 2006′s partnership with legendary UK-based artist Ben Drury. Drury, who was world-renown for his extensive work in the music industry, composing the artwork for label Mo’Wax, first collaborated with Nike Sportswear in 2006 as part of the Tier Zero ‘Air U Breathe’ Pack, which featured the Air Max 1, Air Stab, and Air Max 360. His Air Max 1 design was inspired by the pirate radio scene in London, featuring a 3M reflective mudguard with black premium leather and the distinguishing pulsar stitch detailing on the heel as well as the custom insole, mimicking the strong signals of radio transmissions – a common theme in all of Drury’s work. ‘Hold Tight’ is derived from industry verbage when the words were barked out when something special was about to go down – whether it be an exhilarating ride at a theme park or a song from the radio. The Ben Drury x Nike Air Max 1 ‘Hold Tight’ also came accompanied with a matching t-shirt, bag, and Nike Windrunner jacket – all of which were distributed in limited quantities.
The five Air Max 1 classics shown these week are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cataloging the greatest Air Max 1s in history; with a wide library to cover, we chose to select five of the most dazzling colorways and thoughtful inspirations – and all just so happened to be collaborative efforts with artists and designers. The collaboration is a phenomenon that seems to occur less frequently than what we’d hope for because Nike has been pumping out some great designs in-house, but getting a unique, outside POV clearly results in something on a different plane of thought, does it not? We will continue our Classics Revisited feature next week with a whole new model, but you can certainly count on us coming back to the Air Max 1 because there’s plenty more to revisit. Refresh your memory on this 2006 classic by checking out the gallery below, and let us know if you’ve got the Hold Tights in your stash!

We’ve shown you both of each their GT-IIs and Gel Lyte IIIs, so what does the PYS-affiliated Bait retail spot have on tap as the fifth member of its Asics ‘Rings Pack’ collaboration? The Bait x Asics Gel Saga features a simple black/grey/white design that’s easily the calmest of the five, a subtle look befitting the only silo chosen just once for this quintet. They also happen to reside in a section of the color wheel that’s been arguably the single most popular this spring; might this premium perfed-out Gel Saga have what it takes to beat the other four Asics x Bait collabos to the finish line? Stick with Sneaker News to find out when they release and check out detailed images of this pair (including the golden footbed) below. via Sneaker Freaker

Sneaker News has now shown you both of the GT-IIs they have on tap for June’s ‘opening ceremonies’, and now we’ll move on to Bait’s Gel Lyte III collabo designs. Just like the GTs, there are two Bait x Asics Gel Lyte IIIs coming up from their ‘Rings Pack’, though this first goes a bit further outside those traditional five colors than any of the others. Thanks to purple accents including the laces and 90% of the outsole, these have a ‘Grape’ look to them, a fairly loose interpretation of the ‘Green Ring’ that’s typically presented in more of a kelly shade. Click through to see how the asymmetrically colored netting on this canvas GL3 makes for a nice detail that’s easy to overlook and stick with Sneaker News for the last Gel Lyte III x Bait as well as their Gel Saga collab. via Sneaker Freaker
