Open The Box – German Sneaker Culture Documentary Preview

It’s no secret that sneaker culture is a global concept. All over the world, you can find people with a serious passion for kicks and thanks to the new documentary, Open The Box, we get an inside look at what’s going on with the sneaker scene in Germany. The film features interviews with a variety of accomplished German collectors and of course takes a nice look at some of the treasures that they’ve accumulated over the years, including some seriously vintage heat. Unfortunately, the interviews are in German, but luckily, the sneaker images are a universal language that anyone can appreciate. Keep reading for a look at the trailer and keep an eye out for the full-length documentary in 2010, hopefully with some English subtitles. Via Dunkbar.

DJ AM’s Kicks On Display @ UNDFTD Silverlake

We have steadily been keeping you up to date on the latest on the DJ AM Memorial Fund auction on eBay, and as you may be aware, a large portion of his collection has still not shown up for sale. If you’re wondering what else you can expect to pop up, you can get a glimpse of a couple gems that are now on display at Undefeated. To help raise awareness for the auction and honor DJ AM in the process, a glass case has been set up at UNDFTD Silverlake with a few of AM’s treasures like the N.E.R.D. Dunks and Rocafella and Black Album Air Force 1’s to name a few. Manny Pacquiao x Nike Trainer 1 ‘Philippines’

Good morning, Manny Pacquiao, and congratulations on winning the world title in an unprecedented seventh weight class! Ok, so chances are the Pac-Man is a little too busy today to check the streetwear blog circuit; he deserves to sleep in after that kind of effort (and what an impressive year!). Then again, Manny already has several variations on these, so it’s you who needs to be up and at-’em this morning if you want to get your hands on the Philippines colourway of the Nike Trainer 1. These are basically the same as the ‘Lights Out’ edition, but instead of black and neon green, you get Pacquiao’s national colours. They sold out fast at NikeStore but you might be able to find them at your local Nike Sportswear retailer. via FRESHNESS

DJ AM Memorial Fund eBay Sneaker Auction

The tragic death of DJ AM earlier this year has left one of the world’s great sneaker collections without an owner. Most of Adam Goldstein’s huge collection were Nikes, and he had a pair of Dunks on the way. Maybe the upcoming auction of his size 11 pairs from ‘The Icebox’ will provide Nike with a way to release them in tribute. It would be appropriate if his design could benefit the DJ AM Memorial Fund, as will 100% of the proceeds from the eBay auctions set to start on November 15th. Check the batteries in your smoke detectors before clicking the jump below to get a sense of the white-hot rarities you can expect come this weekend.

Patta x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star + Pro Leather 76 – Available

For anyone not intimately acquainted with modern ’street’ culture, it’d probably be easy to confuse Patta and Parra. You can start to see similarities beyond their nearly-identical European names, upon viewing the former’s entire collection for Converse. Let’s take the Lincoln/Kennedy-style analysis a step further: Parra, who designed a special Converse Chuck Taylor All Star earlier this year, also just dropped a Nike Air Maxim 1 and two matching varsity jackets. Meanwhile, Patta had designed two Converse hightops (quilted grey Chuck and burgundy corduroy Pro Leather 76) with a reversible varsity jacket to match or contrast either pair. These dropped in Europe back in September, but will be hitting select U.S. retailers like HUF tomorrow, November 14th.

Inside the Michael Jordan Building

Last week, Sneaker News had the privilege and pleasure of visiting Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. As you can imagine, the experience was a sneakerhead’s dream come true, and despite the overwhelming sensory overload from all the visual stimulation offered by the immaculate Nike campus, we managed to pull ourselves together enough to snap some pictures to bring back for the viewing pleasure of our loyal readers.

As you might know, all of the buildings on campus are named after legendary Nike athletes, so naturally, it didn’t take us long to inquire about checking out the Michael Jordan Building. Upon entering the structure named after the most heralded Nike endorser of them all, you are immediately greeted with an incredible museum-like display, chock full of the most incredible accumulation of Michel Jordan memorabilia that you will likey ever find in one room.

The center of the lobby area is home to two glass display cases that feature the first 16 Air Jordan sneakers, many game-worn, autographed or both. Moving out towards the walls, there are large glass cases on each opposing wall, filled from floor to ceiling with jaw-dropping MJ artifacts. In addition to more signed and game-worn sneakers, the displays feature jerseys, magazine covers and photography, as well as props and mementos from some classic Air Jordan commercials and campaigns, and even some early prototype samples from the formative years of the iconic line.
