Converse has significantly expanded their selection of themed Chuck Taylor releases in the past few years, but one of the very first alterations this beloved classic ever received was the dual-layered design that allowed you to expose the inside color by folding the outside into a collar. So while this isn’t the first time the One Star has offered a Chuck with an ankle collar as a key feature, the Converse All Star Turndown LC Ox is indeed a unique expression of this American classic’s DNA. These come in at a peculiar-to-Chucks midtop height thanks to a leather-laced turned-down collar that accents the ivory or mossy brown leather uppers with red and blue beads. The latest example of Converse Japan‘s envelope-pushing approach blends Native style with an OG silo, but would you buy them if US retailers had a stock?

Converse Skateboarding – Spring 2012 Releases @ Premier

A new month coming up means a new set of footwear releases from Converse Skateboarding, and perhaps in acknowledgement of the shortest month of the year, CONS is stripping away a bit of the extra detailing on one of their staples. The CONS Sea Star LS Ox strips out the traditional deck shoe-style heel lace and instead keeps the docksider sprit in its silhouette, much the way the vast majority of Zoom Stefan Janoskis have flown off Nike SB store shelves. Blue and white editions join new Trapasso Ox and CTS Ox lowtops in grey suedes, while a black CTS LS Ox shows off a slight variation on the immortal Chuck Taylor lowtop’s lines. Celebrity Feet: Michelle Obama – CLOT x Converse Chuck Taylor ‘Handshake’

We already know that President Obama is on board with the Jumpman, but does the First Lady rock heat as well? Apparently more prone to lifestyle sneakers, Michelle Obama was recently spotted on-air with Ellen Degeneres rocking the CLOT x Converse Chuck Taylor ‘Handshake’. The Converse Chuck Taylor is obviously a very popular sneaker, so normally this wouldn’t be notable, but the fact that she showed up on the set with a collabo pair from one of Asia’s biggest footwear forces certainly hints at some deeper knowledge of the game, or at least a good stylist. Are Barack and Michelle Obama America’s first presidential sneakerhead couple? Is Joe Biden getting a pair of Nike Air Yeezy’s 2 before they drop? Super Mario Bros. x Converse One Star Ox

The last Super Mario-inspired kicks we showcased here on Sneaker News was a duo of custom Air Force 1 Lows, but let’s not forget that there is indeed a branch of Nike, Inc. working on an official collaboration with Nintendo. The Super Mario Bros. x Converse One Star Ox sees its signature element embellished with the kind of beady eyes that make you invincible, black and white pairs offering running and jumping 8-bit Marios on their respective heels. Is it possible we might see a similar design issued for brother Luigi, or maybe even the evil Wario? UNDFTD x fragment design x Converse

UNDFTD and fragment design have both hooked up with Converse in the past, although when that went down it was independent of any involvement from each other. So did Eddie Cruz recently bump into Hiroshi Fujiwara in the halls of the All Star HQ or what? While that probably isn’t exactly how it went down, either way we can tell you that the trio is has something in the works. So far the details are minimal, but expect them to be of the Chuck Taylor persuasion and predominantly red. For a true sneakerhead, nothing can rival the feeling of a pickup you’ve been eagerly anticipating, but this latest collaborative release from Converse might manage to take it even one step further by making you even happier courtesy of a little sunshine in a bag. The Gorillaz x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star we previewed here on Sneaker News last November is finally on the way to retailers, though the timing seems curious given the nearly significant gap since The Fall and no word of an upcoming album on the way. Perhaps that’s why we’re adding one new design to the offering, a sketch-laden black-on-white design that utilizes the other pair’s unique camo pattern on the sockliner. Missoni x Converse – 2012 Preview

Missoni might very well be the world’s best known manufacturer of luxury knitwear, and they’ve managed to extend their reach in recent years will well-placed collaborative releases from a variety of partners. The one that carries the most weight around these parts is the Italian fashion label’s ongoing tag team with Converse that’s produced some of the more unique looks in recent memory. The Missoni x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star will return later this year in a fairly dark construction reminiscent of the Auckland Racer we previewed not too long ago, and the absence of the Pro Leathers we showed you at the same time suggests there could be even more in store for 2012.
