The Converse Fast Break Hi might seem like it’s been around a bit more often, but it’s really something of a rarity from the One Star’s heritage catalog. That sense of familiarity is possibly a reflection of their similarity to the Puma First Round hightop, but the sidewall branding on this pair’s sole ensures there’s absolutely no confusion. This brown, red and gold colorup is the kind of thing you’ll need to have in your closet come the colder months, but they can also sub in during the summer if you want to tone things down just a tad. New Era x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Hi

Even though its parent company got started with the brand that’s the global leader in athletic footwear and gear, Converse is still considered the American heritage sneaker brand. Their absorption into Nike, Inc. has improved not only the once-struggling One Star’s bottom line, but also sent them in the direction of collaborations and other modern marketing strategies. The latest just so happens to team up with the Buffalo, NY company who’s been supplying Major League Baseball with 59FIFTY caps so long they’re the definitive name in fitteds. So the New Era Cap Company x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Hi has a ton of history behind it (196 years, to be exact), and when you see how NE’s famed woolen (actually, polyester since 2007) weave matches with the Chuck’s immortal silhouette, you might get a sense for this as an almost ‘inevitable’ pairing. Converse recently remixed the Auckland Racer in much the same way as their Chuck Taylor and Star Player have been meshed-out, but this latest release proves the One Star still has some loyalty to the original. Aside from the textured TUF that was no doubt also inspired by burlap bags, we haven’t seen any sneakers themed after the good ol’ gunny sack. That changes with word of this new Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Ox duo from the One Star’s Japanese division, two earthy, ruggedly constructed lowtops that could become an everyday standard for you in much the same way that farmers have relied on those trusty bags for ages. Their rough uppers add quite a bit of depth to those fairly plain shades, and just a hint of color on the tongue finishes these off nicely. ’Gunny shoe’ is another name for that kind of bag but that might change, now that two pairs that literally reflect that style are now available from Converse Japan.
