The next Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 creation was crafted by skateboarding legend Lance Mountain, and does indeed feature a fade-away paint job as hinted at by that video preview that featured the sneakers. They’ll also stay true to the mismatch style that Lance Mountain used to rock, with one of the shoes featuring varsity red accents and the other featuring royal blue, which will be revealed when the sneakers are worn down to the proper extent. The eYe COMME des GARCONS team and Junya Watanabe have been outfitting New Balance silhouettes with special makeups for some time now. In the past they’ve worked with the New Balance 1500, 1600, 1400, and they’ve even taken a stab at the New Balance 996 before. They’re at it again with this Revlite version of the sneakers, which features a supple red leather upper, some minimal reptile looking touches, and the requisite logo hits on the insoles. So what’s the official line on the Nike SB “Hacky Sack” pack that’s releasing conspicuously close to 4/20? According to Nike, designers spotted the fabric used while roaming the streets of Tokyo and found that it looked rather like “footbags that were popular during the 1980s”. From there they pulled the texture for some signature silhouettes (There’s also a Project BA “Hacky Sack”) as a reference to skate shop employees that would kick these “footbags” around when business was slow. What is the Bay Area sneaker scene like? A few things we noticed: the Bay seems to have a bigger appreciation for Nike SBs than most cities in 2014, and they also seem more willing to throw down cash for custom sneakers.
