Much has been made of the Air Jordan IV’s 25th anniversary and the pending retros, but the sneaker with which it shares the most in common has vastly outnumbered the Four in early 2012. So while all the attention given to February’s ‘White Cement’ AJ4 Retro was well deserved, this new Nike Air Flight 89 makes five already for the young year. 1 on 5 isn’t exactly an ideal basketball matchup (even Michael Jordan himself needed guys like Jud Buechler to have his back), but this new Sacramento Kings-leaning Air Flight 89 has those odds seeming just about perfect (until the Military Blue IVs touch down, anyway). John Calipari and the Nike-represented Kentucky Wildcats captured the National Championship this past Monday, but before the game went down, it appears that some Kentucky-driven promotions were going on in New Orleans! In conjunction with the House of Hoops, a special pop-up section focusing on the Kentucky cause was set-up, featuring a lasering station for white-on-white Air Force 1s and the Kentucky-inspired Dunk Highs and additional displays with camo socks and apparel. This set of Kentucky gear by hardcore Wildcat loyalist Miguel Rodriguez aka TheNational shows just how crazy one can get – eight pairs of UK-lasered Dunks for this guy. The Nike Air Max Tempo is one of those models that’s earned quite a few victory laps since its introduction in 1995, their continual quick sellouts a quick proof that this could be the most popular basketball shoe from that year not named ‘Air Jordan XI’. We got the OG ‘Mystic Teal’ edition earlier this year, and coming up soon along with several other new looks is this pair in a Tour Yellow and Midnight Navy mix that sees them connected one degree away from Chris Webber’s Michigan Wolverines and Reggie Miller’s Indiana Pacers. The Nike Air Flight 89 returned to action this spring after a few years on the bench, arriving in four new releases that saw the majority reflect classic styling and just one new look echoing one of today’s hot colorways. This new pair goes in a different direction that manages to blend both of these styles together while reminding us that the Sky Force 88 got a similarly all-over-colorful lifestyle-oriented run in the second half of last year. Could Nike Sportswear have a similar collection of Air Flight 89s on deck with different colors of microperforated suede aside from these Club Purple House of Hoops-exclusives? What do you get when you combine a mid-90′s Nike Basketball legend with one of the most recognizable team colorways of all-time? A must-cop. Dropping soon exclusively at House of Hoops is this new Tour Yellow/White-Midnight Navy colorway of the Nike Air Max Tempo – a shoe that we commonly attribute to Chris Webber in a serendipitous color-up of the Michigan Wolverines school colors. It pairs the bright Tour Yellow with the Midnight Navy mudguard and a solid-white outsole/Swoosh combo for a unmistakeable Nike Retro product that should open some eyes – particularly those who have an affinity for Retro Basketball shoes (and if you passed up on the OG colorway, shame on you). The mayhem surrounding the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ came to a boiling point last night, as various House of Hoops locations across the nation experienced immeasurable discord and dystopia that required intervention by police authorities. In reaction to the events and keeping the security and safety of the community in mind, Foot Locker released official information regarding the cancellation of the Nike All-Star releases at a number of their House of Hoops locations. The Galaxy Foamposites have generated an immense of amount of popularity that perhaps Nike and the retail locations did not anticipate, and sellers looking to cash in on the craze have begun to list their pick-ups on eBay – with one auction (most likely a guff listing) garnering an inordinate amount of attention that will likely see a final bid of over $100,000 (those Blackout XIs seem like a bargain now, don’t they?).
Up until last night, the release of the Pigeon SB Dunk was considered the most notorious sneaker release of this generation, but just to give you an idea of how it pales in comparison – there were many ‘Pigeon SB Dunk’ situations going on within one location, and what saddens the entire ordeal is that the shoe in question never even made it outside the store! Halloween in mid-November? Anything’s possible at Foot Locker’s House of Hoops, where a concept catering to hardcore basketball fans and sneakerheads has now expanded to most of the largest US cities. The latest HoH exclusive will have you remembering all the fun you had dressing up in costumes in late October, this new black and Max Orange Nike Zoom Rookie about as close as the Air Penny super-hybrid can get to a jack-o-lantern. They’ll light up the morning as malls across the country open when “Kicksmas comes early” to all House of Hoops locations right around the time the early bird lap-walking crew calls it a day.

Last week, the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP in the Binary Blue colorway hit stores, marking the official wide launch of the latest Air Penny shoe. Going back to the slightly more limited distribution is the ‘Max Orange’ colorway of the Zoom Rookie that we showed you in September; the quote the very first comment left by a Sneaker News reader, “These are *expletive* gorgeous”.
