While Nike is based in on the West Coast, they have never been shy about the cultural importance of New York as a mecca for sneakerheads. As a result, we’ve seen countless models over the years paying tribute to NYC in some form, and the Battle of the Boroughs pack follows down that tradition. Earlier today we showed you the Queens and Bronx versions of the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 and now Brooklyn and Harlem enter into the fray with these two special releases of the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011. LA’s Blake Griffin put the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 on the map with his earth-shattering PE and now it’s New York’s turn to represent for Nike Basketball’s newest top-flight design. The Hyperdunk 2011 ‘Battle of the Boroughs’ will see a Queens team in Mets colors take on a Bronx squad in Yankees colors as part of their release, though by the time of tip-off on Saturday, these might be sold out from their limited stockists. Penny Hardaway made Sneaker News recently when images of his Nike Air Force 1 exclusive surfaced in June, but it’s Penny’s Nike Sportswear retros that keep him relevant for a generation of fans who never saw the man drop a single dime. The Nike Air Penny III comes back out of left field with an updated take on its unique design, the black Foamposite plus Varsity Royal nubuck is kind of like a mid/late ’90s time capsule, but the use of ripstop nylon on the ankle collar and the sheer novelty of this striking new colorblocking scheme makes these feel totally fresh. If you need any evidence for what a ruckus the introduction of new materials to a classic model can cause, look no further than the nubuck Air Jordan III. Luckily the interesting mixture of nylon and nubuck on the upper of this Nike Air Penny 3, doesn’t suffer a similar fate. This shoe sticks with the familiar Penny colorway of white, black, and blue, but switches the roles up with the white playing the background, found only on the accents and stitching. These are scheduled for a House of Hoops release on July 23rd so you are gonna have to put in some work for them, but they are a must for Penny collectors. Stateside sneakerheads were crushed with the news that the Air Jordan V ‘Quai 54′ was indeed not going to release here in the US, but that doesn’t mean Jordan Brand won’t be giving us a green-on-white Air Jordan Legacy model this month, either. The release date has just been changed, so now it will be Saturday, July 23rd that the Boston House of Hoops and Miami’s SoleFly will start selling the Air Jordan XIII Ray Allen PE that he was wearing when he broke the NBA’s career record for three-pointers along with a special matching t-shirt. These are gonna be instant sellout material, with mid-Atlantic heads heading either north or south on I-95 to one of the two spots; do you plan on joining the camp-out? It has just been confirmed that SoleFly will actually be releasing these on July 9th at their 1 year anniversary celebration. The Boston release will follow on the 23rd.

With the Quai 54 International Streetball Tournament set to take over Paris this weekend, we’ve seen quite a buildup from Jordan Brand. After getting our first look at the Team ISO 2 that joins the ‘Quai 54′ Air Jordan V Retro, much of the attention has shifted to a black nubuck pair of AJ5s. They feature the same Radiant Green accents, but with only 54 pairs in existence, only those who can pull the longest strings will have a pair. The white tumbled leather Air Jordan 5 is also limited, but as a House of Hoops exclusive, many more sneakerheads will have their chance to grab a pair. Ray Allen made history on February 9th when he broke the all-time NBA record of 3-pointers made, capping off a sure-fire Hall of Fame career. During that game, Jordan Brand outfitted him in a sweet White/Green Player Exclusive colorway of the Air Jordan, featuring his ‘RAY’ logo on the tongue. News of a limited release of the Air Jordan XIII Ray Allen PE stirred up some debate, and now Sneaker News has the official release date and information for one of the most limited Air Jordans in recent memory. Ray Allen made noise in mid-February when he showed up for a pre-game shootaround wearing two different golden Air Jordan player exclusive colorways. Ray’s AJIXs added a green lace to the Bin 23 edition, while his Elevens opted for a green sole instead. The former was a super-limited retail release so we can let that slide, but when you take a model that’s perhaps the overall fan favorite from the entire Air Jordan Legacy, and see it historically overshadowed by another model, you know we’re talking about something special.
