Japanese clothing powerhouse United Arrows’ Beauty & Youth label continues to push for global name recognition with another collaboration with the worldwide skate leader. The Beauty & Youth x Vans Era ‘Animal Pack’ reprises a washed out leopard theme B&Y offered on a Slip-On last year, adding a similarly crafted zebra edition to stay with one of the hottest themes of the past year-plus. The latest from Converse Japan’s U.S. Originator capsule reaches back to the wild 1980s multicolor prints that inform today’s pattern trends. The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star ‘Retrotropica’ features four pairs split between high and low covered from heel to capped toe in sketches of leaves and fruit, with a red canvas base adding colors reminiscent of the New Orleans Hornets for a more high-contrast feel than the blues, which opt for mostly cool-colored hits. UNDERCOVER’s ‘Gyakusou’ capsule has become synonymous with Nike Running performance machines as colored in a distinct range of cool blues, warm berries and select additional shades. The latest GIRA drop gives us two more distinct palettes on the latest model as the Nike LunarSpider+ 3 LT ‘Gyakusou’ hits the scene in Flat Pewter/Sangria/Gridiron and Pro Green/Blackened Blue/Dark Rust. Japanese e-mall Zozotown links up with adidas Originals to create a collaboration that’s simultaneously timely and unexpected. The ZOZO x adidas Originals Campus ’80s comes to us at a time when animal prints are at an all time high, bolstered by how easy it is to make a Year of the Snake sneaker look great. But instead of taking the simple scaled approach that’s already worked well for several Three Stripes releases including a trio of CP 80s last summer, ZOZO opts to use a very shaggy pony hair to create an asymmetrical approach that from a distance would look like a well-aged navy lowtop. United Arrows’ Beauty & Youth imprint continues its partnership with New Balance, this time offering a ladies-only collaboration. The Beauty & Youth x New Balance W996 might remind you of the ‘Year of the Snake’ Nike WMNS Air Max 1 thanks to its mix of beige suede, coral accents and metallic gold branding. But in typically low-key New Bal fashion, this one doesn’t feature any extra theming and instead relies upon the quality of its materials and their clever arrangement. Puma was about a year ahead of schedule with the Year of the Snake trend and has continued to release new styles with some regularity in the interim. Today we see three familiar models take on colorways that would have just as well-placed in early 2012, as the Puma First Round, Slipstream and Basket go for elegant black and/or white makeups featuring various scale placements. Shinsuke Takizawa started Neighborhood in 1994, and though they were positioned as one of the early leaders in collabo kicks, the Japanese fashion label has been relatively quiet in recent years. Neighborhood has worked with industry leaders like Nike and adidas, and for their latest project, this now legendary brand helps shine some extra light on a resurgent classic label. The Neighborhood x PRO-Keds Royal Plus sticks to simple quality with black/white and grey/burgundy suede getups.
