Following up on the hightop return, Converse Japan readies the Chevronstar’s lowtop counterpart. The Converse Canvas Chevronstar CX-250 SU OX is actually built in suede with leather accents, a gold and black combination that always manages to look ‘vintage’ even when they’re brand new. A classically styled vulcanized sole furthers the classic look on this 1977 basketballer, but are they different enough from the Pro Leather, Nike’s Blazer and Bruin or adidas’ Nizza to warrant a purchase? Japanese rapper Verbal’s Ambush Design has contributed some eye-catching collaborative sneaker designs, but the latest manages to grab your attention with maximum efficiency. The colors are kept to a minimum on all of the Verbal x Ambush x Reebok Pump Fury HLS designs, but thanks to a glossy treatment on the angular overlay, subtly outlined monochromatic blue and red counterparts are equally ostentatious as their silver-accented white and black predecessors. A throwback to simpler days that earned some extra attention in years gone by thanks to collaborations with some of Asia’s hottest brands, the Nike Tennis Classic AC returns with a duo of new designs inspired by Far East football. A Chuck Taylor derivation that’s seen limited play even as the One Star expands their classics catalog to keep pace with other brands’ heritage releases, Converse Japan reintroduces a couple of old school court kicks that deserve more time in the spotlight. These new Converse Canvas Chevronstar designs feature tiger camouflage on their contrast-stitched uppers, high and lowtops adding a bit of Pro Leather/Blazer-ish branding instead of the All Star’s ankle patch look. These are part of the Dave Spector-backed ‘U.S. Originator’ capsule along with other notable American imagery like DC Comics characters, so stick with Sneaker News for the latest and let us know if you’ll try to import this tiger camo pack.

Puma were ahead of their time in 2008, releasing a trio of Suede lowtops whose macro leopard print would be a logical progression with the recent animal print craze now firmly entrenched. After leopard usurped cheetah’s throne and Gourmet went to left field for their ocelot makeups, the latest branch to explore on the feline family tree as we move into 2013 is the panther. This new mita sneakers x Puma Suede we saw in brief a few days ago is positioned as one of the earliest representations of this rosette pattern (quite similar to leopard, really), but this Japanese exclusive is only available at Puma Store Osaka.

Lowest ratio of appreciation/status to number of releases in Ronnie Fieg’s collaborative career? That would have to be the three Saucony Courageous classic runners he authored for New York’s David Z in 2008, a trio after which we haven’t seen hardly any of this old school style that has more recently lent its name to a trail runner. Japan’s White Mountaineering utilize the original silhouette on three of their own designs all comprised of tonal suede, and you can see more of this spring/summer 2013 trio after the jump below.
