What would happen if you took the Nike Air Max 90‘s best known colorway and toned down the intensity on the black and red sections? The first answer that comes to mind upon seeing this new pair is “Another beautiful AM90″, but let’s be more specific about what they’re bringing to the table. This is one of many Ninetys this spring done up with the beloved ‘Infrared’ OG blocking pattern, and just like the other releases that’re more widely available, these opt for a shift on the mudguard rather than the OG black (Dark Shadow grey, in this case). This in combination with a more conventional red than the Infra- variety gives these a fresh but familiar feel, but the only way you’ll ever have them in your hands them is to get in touch with JD Sports.

If you check back in our archives over the last couple of months, you’ll notice a particular aversion towards the OG grey-dient look for the Nike Air Max 95. In the absence of that iconic set up there have been a gang of other colorways vying for your attention, some of them putting a darker twist on the look, and some opting for a more solid blocking overall. The anthracite and red version shown here flips the grey-dient set up on its head, letting the sneaker get darker from the ground up. The original Black/Grey/Volt colorway of the Nike Air Max 95 has been copied over to countless other Nike models over the last seventeen years, but like how a suit is tailored to one distinct person, so does Black/Grey/Volt fit perfectly for the Air Max 95. Even when the colorway is slightly reshuffled, it still looks amazing, and this Black/Volt colorway which has been previewed on Sneaker News before has garnered some positive reaction (and rightfully so). The vast majority of these colorways are dark, many black, and most featuring at least one shade of blue. These new JD-onlys fit right in that category with a modified gradient that goes from black to light grey and back again, top to bottom. In the middle, you’ll see just the slightest hint of the vivid blue shade that reappears on the outsole for a hidden appeal that matches the colorway’s stealthy vibe that’s finished off by a bit of red restricted to the lace-ticking.
