One of the discussed topics during our interview with Nike Basketball designer Leo Chang was the creation of the “Superhero” Collection of the shoes. He pointed out that the idea was processed long before the Elite and that with Kobe, LeBron, and KD already owning that superhuman persona, the concept of the Pack sorta fell into place. It’s definitely good to see the KD get included in this year’s set, with the drastic low-cut stance and the sick midsole being the takeaway components of the design, and the Blue/Volt colorway certainly brings in that Superhero character that Durant effortlessly embodies. The Nike KD V Elite “Superhero” is ready to to release at stores during the release date on Saturday, April 27th, so with confirmed spots like Oneness getting their stock in now in anticipation of the drop, let us know if this revamped Nike KD V is a must-have for you.

The Nike KD V Elite in White/Tour Yellow-Photo Blue will release on May 18th. One of the four Nike KD V Elite colorways is indeed the “Playoffs Home” version - the same shoe that Durant is currently wearing and also debuted before the Playoffs. With the release date now confirmed to be May 18th, we’d like to point out that this “OKC” color has no Orange, and the same can be said for Russell Westbrook’s PE of the Air Jordan XX8, which also features the simpler blue/yellow combo. The NBA Playoffs are in full swing, and the debut selection of Playoff kicks have been very impressive! LeBron starts things off with a “Home” PE of the Nike LeBron X Elite, while J.R. Smith of the Knicks wore the “Superhero” colorway. The Air Jordan XX8 was a popular pick with Russel Westbrook, Ray Allen, and Gerald Wallace, while DJ Augustine went with the Air Jordan IV “Thunder”. Nate Robinson rocked his Air Jordan XIII custom by Mache, while Wilson Chandler went with the funky Nike Air Raid during the Nuggets’ win over the Grizzlies. Will Kevin Durant and the OKC Thunder book a second consecutive trip to the NBA Finals? As the West’s top seed, it sure looks that way, and during the postseason ride, KD will be lacing up the new Elite-model signature shoe. Durant was excludied from the Nike Basketball Elite collection, but there was no doubt that he would be included in this year’s set, so the question if Durant will save the White/Gold colorway for the Finals only remains. When Nike Basketball unveiled the initial Elite Series last spring, a lot of eyebrows were raised in response to the high pricetags, but upon examination of what you were getting for your money, it became clear that these shoes were packing some next-level performance features. We sat down with designers Leo Chang and Jason Petrie prior to the release of the first Elites to really delve into what made the shoes so “elite” and why the product justified the hefty pricepoints. As we learned, every tiny detail of the shoes are analyzed, considered and upgraded using materials and technologies that could never make it onto the in-season models because of their high cost. The Elite Series lets these designers loose to do all the things they’ve always wanted to do on a basketball shoe, and the end result is the pinnacle of what’s been achieved to date in the basketball footwear genre.

We haven’t seen too much in the PE category for the Nike KD V, but this teaser of a special edition for the National High School Invitational 2013 should have curious minds intrigued about the model before it hangs up its laces for good. This particular PE was made for the Gray Bees of St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, NJ – one of the top basketball Prep schools in the nation that took part in the Championship game of the National High School Invitational two weekends ago. A release is unlikely, but check out the teaser shots and we’ll hit you up with more details and photos should they arrive.

Can you imagine a “Scoring Title” version of the Nike KD V Elite? Kevin Durant apparently isn’t super gung-ho about trying to lock down another one of those accolades that would result in such a sneaker, as he’ll be sitting out for OKC’s final game of the season tonight. That’s not to say that there aren’t plenty of slick colorways already lined up for the Nike KD V Elite, this white/metallic gold amongst them being the sort of baseline.
