“What the Kobe?!” is an expression fairly close to what Laker fans have been feeling as their team narrowly avoided defeat at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, but the Black Mamba wore decidedly calmer sneakers for the first round than the wild animal-printed color study with that nickname. Instead of Cheetahs or Wolves or Poison Dart Frogs, Kobe has opted for the simple yet effective PE colorups on the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Supreme. Pictured above is a brand new offering in that same Elite-ish style, a two-toned Zoom Kobe 7 player exclusive that looks right at home as an ‘Away’ style juxtaposed against a white ‘Home’ edition. Check them out in greater detail below, let us know which you’d be more likely to replicate on NIKEiD and stick with Sneaker News for more 2012 playoff kicks in our NBA Feet feature. If you read our Nike Air Max ‘What The Max’ post carefully, you would’ve caught our hint at another ‘What The’ model of this unique pack. Well, here it is – the Nike Zoom Kobe VII; as you’ve witnessed thus far, the Kobe VII has demonstrated its unique capability of going HAM with colorways and patterns as we’ve seen quite a variety with the Christmas/Leopard, the Poison Dart Frogs, the Galaxy, and the Invisibility Cloaks, and this dope ‘What The Kobe’ follows the true ‘What The’ formula laid out by the SB Dunk by using those patterns all around the shoe. Just to start things off, you can see the Leopard upper on the left shoe and the Dart Frog no the right. These are featured on one of the covers of Sneaker Freaker 24 (if you’ve been keeping up with our previews as of late, the SF Issue 24 is looking like a must-have), so check out the full shot of the cover below and let us know what you think of this ‘What The’ attempt. In an unprecedented footwear decision, Kobe Bryant reverted back to the non-Elite Kobe VII for Game 2 of the Lakers/Nuggets series, wearing a ‘Supreme’ PE colorway of purple and white. Turns out you can build your own Game 2 PE on Nike iD, and Kobe might be better off breaking ‘em out again because he had his best game of the entire Series wearing these Supremes (dropped 38 on an above-50% clip). Will Kobe Bryant and the Lakers seal the deal against the Nuggets in Game 6? Check out the additional angles below and let us know what you think.

Our features on custom sneakers have placed a worthy spotlight on a few artistic individuals who have displayed their handiwork in their sick custom works. Among the ‘elite’ group of customizers is Jason Negron, one individual who has mastered and manipulated the Foamposite as if it were an extension of his own being, but his latest work is a ‘curveball’ of sorts as he makes an attempt at a Kobe custom inspired by one of the most popular Zoom Kobes in history. Here’s a look at the Nike Zoom Kobe VII ‘Grinch’ Custom; using this season’s ‘Christmas’ join as the base, Jason repainted almost the entire shoe, going full tonal neon volt on the upper and, in a nutshell, reconstituting the Grinch colorway on the heel, outsole, the laces, and the Swoosh. The cherry on top is the snake wrapping itself around the Kobe Shozoku logo. No sole-swapping here, but a solid customization on a shoe that is certainly difficult to manipulate due to the finicky snakeskin upper material. We’ve got a detailed look at Jason Negron’s custom Grinch below so take a look and check him out on his Sole Swap Facebook Page or Instagram to follow his work.

When images of this Blue/Red Kobe VII Poison Dart Frog first dropped, a quick moniker of ‘Spiderman’ popped up among forums, but it’s clear that any sort of Spiderman nickname will have be squashed like a bug because the shade of red seen here is Team Orange, which is a bloody shade of orange that, apparently, in some light, appears like a bright red. Perhaps the shade will look more truer to Team Orange in a duller light, but this isn’t the first time a set of pictures played tricks on your eyes, right (Metallic Pewter Foamposites, for one)? We’ve got some additional angles below so take a look and let us know if this ‘Team Orange’ colorway is the best of the Poison Dart Frog bunch. Photos: hoopcity

The NBA Playoffs continued over the past weekend, as we got a look a select number of new sneakers as the teams shifted ‘Home’ and ‘Away’. Starting off, Kobe Bryant wore a PE Black/Yellow colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite (not far off from the Gold), as he led the Lakers to a 3-1 lead over the Nuggets. The Lakers’ local counterparts also featured some new sneakers, like CP3′s ‘Home’ colorway of the Playoffs joints and Eric Bledsoe’s LeBron 9 ‘Christmas’. Out East, Carmelo pulled out NY’s first Playoff win in years in a White/Orange/Grey PE of the Jordan Melo M8, while Rajon Rondo led the Celtics to a 3-1 advantage over the Hawks while wearing the Nike Zoom Huarache 2k4 in a White/Green PE (Rondo once mentioned that the 2k4 was the most comfortable basketball shoe he ever wore). More of NBA Feet below, so take a look and stay tuned for more updates! Photos: espn

Is this Kobe Bryant’s final run at a title? Does he have it in him to capture his sixth ring? The Laker faithful is certainly pulling for the Black Mamba, who, despite going through some personal troubles over the season, put up a solid season and almost won another Scoring Title (he dropped 38 on the Nuggets on Monday). Tomorrow, the second installment of the Poison Dart Frog Series will become available at Nike Basketball retailers, and of the three PDF releases, these are obviously the most Laker-centric as it adopts the Gold/Purple onto the wild pattern on the upper. Catch these frogs tomorrow at Nike Basketball retailers, or get ‘em now from yellownxst on eBay.

What’s next for the Zoom Kobe VII? Nike iD has done a phenomenal job with stretching out the design options for the sneaker as it now introduces the ‘Two Tone’ option for the upper. In addition to the solid, Fade, and Poison Dart Frog option, the Two Tone allows for a distinct base layer with black on the outermost layer. Seen here in the stunning Black/Volt colorway, the Nike Zoom Kobe VII iD just got a bit more exciting to play around with, so check out some of the sample shots below and head on over to Nike iD now to design your pair.
