The fallout of last year’s CNCPTS x New Balance 999 ’Kennedy’ hit release has seen a warm reception for this classic along with wider availability of new colorways here in the US, exactly the kind of momentum we’re hoping to see from the model that’s just one number different. But the New Balance 998 has a significantly differnent silhouette than the NB999, so having both of them arrive in new editions offers a great opportunity to get schooled on these (almost) forgotten classics. The 999s come in a tonal grey getup with purple accents, while the 998s opt for an earthy brown mix of suede and mesh. K-Way x New Balance 420

Their reflective, metal-infused-nylon and glass-bead-embedded material drops were the final straw for New Balance before they brought on DDC Lab’s co-owners as NB Lifestyle Creative directors, but we haven’t seen too terribly much of the model upon which these visuals debuted in the past few years. But with a variety of NB classics finally earning some time in the sun, the New Balance 420 is a must, and these new colorways from Canadian raincoat manufacturer K-Way offer a quartet of looks that are just as fresh today as they would have been back when this model won 1982′s Runner’s World model of the year award. All three are in stock now at select shops like Concepts and you can see them all up-close after the jump.

Sneaker News Blogs: Best of WDYWT – 1/31 – 2/6

It was another week of hot sneakers from Sneaker News Blogs: Best of WDYWT, and even with Superbowl XLVI keeping people at home in their living rooms or at local bars, the onslaught of on-feet fire didn’t miss a beat. A few readers got their hands on the Nike Basketball Black History Month 2012 Collection, while a pair of brothers rocked the Air Force 1 and Air Jordan III from last year’s BHM Collection. We also got a look at some great Retros, like the French Blue XII, Black Laser IV, and some nice low-top gems, and even an OG Air Jordan from ’93 made its way to this exclusive list. New Balance M576 ‘The Road to London Pack’

The New Balance 576 is a Flimby favorite that has already been called upon a couple of times for UK themed packs. New Balance is back at it in anticipation of the 2012 Summer Olympic games which will be taking place in London. Hence ‘The Road to London’ pack, so named for the special tongue tags featuring the same words, representative of the journey many will make come summertime in search of glory. Hopeful gold accents swirl around the sneaker and even into the Union Jack flag on back, an obvious tie-in with the Olympic theme. New Balance 751

The New Balance 574 is an established pillar in the sneaker game, having released in a million different colorways (must’ve been a quarter-mil for grey and navy each), introducing for online customization and serving as the inspiration to spinoffs and hybrid models like the H574 trail shoe or the recent HS77 barefoot-mimicker. The latest branch off the NB574 family tree is the all-new New Balance ML751, a model that keeps that classic shape intact but goes for more modern lightweight and breathable synthetic materials to capture the end of the spectrum where the OG 574 is better left unaltered. New Balance M1300NR ‘Made in USA’ – Navy

There’s something to be said for copping a pair of kicks made right here in the USA. New Balance has long been supportive of domestically produced runners, with the 2011 collection ending up particularly strong. Kicking off 2012 in familiar fashion is the New Balance M1300NR, one of their higher end models done up here in a deep navy suede. Throw in some red accents for a bit of pop and a clean white Encap midsole and you’ve got quite a nice looking retro runner. After you pick up a pair from Packer, ponder this: is the Made in USA line currently holding the NB crown or does Flimby do it better? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

New Balance ML574 ‘Workwear Pack’ – Available

If you were an alien from another galaxy visiting earth for the first time, and decided the first thing you’d do instead of overthrowing the world’s governments and enslaving its population, is get yourself a comfy pair of classic runners, you might find it somewhat challenging to select from the immensely nuanced New Balance catalog. NB has managed to turn grey and navy blue into their own entire color spectrums, and will continue to sell out countless renditions of these time-tested classics for the same reason any other impeccable and well aged items move units into perpituity. The similarities have gotten even thicker with this latest release, a ‘Workwear Pack’ of New Balance ML574s that not only utilizes one grey design of at least four we’ve seen on the 574 this spring, but also releases a single day before the ‘blue collar’ edition of Burn Rubber’s ‘Workforce Pack’ of MT580s. So as you can clearly see, NB has jammed quite a bit of working class durable quality into their early 2012s, and the first half of the four Workwear 574s are available now at Premier.
