New Balance 365 Project

New Balance has been praised by the public for its ethical manufacturing methods and willingness to open its doors to those who want to get a deeper look inside. Other companies are rather secretive about how they operate whereas New Balance offers video footage of their factory, like the one brought to us by Hanon last month. In an increased effort to the brand a part of everyday routine, New Balance has launched the New Balance 365 project with the goal to engage consumers on a daily basis, making “the balance” a routine thought.

Beginning on February 22nd, New Balance, in collaboration with film director Jesper Kouthoofd and Lifestyle agency Mother New York, will release one twenty-second video every day for the entire year, each video previewing a New Balance silhouette that is set for a Spring/Summer 2010 release. Following the preview of the shoe is information regarding retail availability and pricing. Each video was produced with a message of “balance”, portrayed intriguingly in numerous ways, like climbing a man-made New Balance mountain, or two banjoists dueling over a song. There is also an iPhone app to make the New Balance 365 Launch project easier to access. Check out the video and images after the jump.

Beams x New Balance CM 1500

The New Balance CM1500 has been a popular choice when it comes to collaborations between New Balance and . The multi-layered design of the CM1500 (and most other NBs) make it quite easy to adorn with a plethora of colors. But check out this collaboration with Japan-based Beams and the Boston-based sneaker company; the Beams x New Balance CM1500 keeps it OG with the use of grey tones – similar to the trademark colourway of the New Balance 998 that was once considered reserved for geriatrics or those with orthopedic needs. As with most overseas New Balance collabs, these look to be tough to acquire in the states, so grab them directly from Beams.

New Balance Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

New Balance might not get enough love from the sneaker culture in the US, only being associated with old people who ‘need something comfortable for their afternoon walks.’ But overseas, NB is killing it as one of the staple brands in their footwear arsenal. As a 103-year-old brand, it wants to really step it up a notch for the new year. Seeing what’s in store for the Fall/Winter collection at COMPASS, we can get a look at the roster for the first half of 2010. Reviving a bunch of classics from the vault, along brand new models and revamps of other popular models, the Spring and Summer collections is looking at about a whole lot of models and colorways; about 120 variations in total! New Balance Experience Store to Open in Shanghai

You could probably push the debate either way “Which is closer…Shanghai to Hong Kong, or New Balance to Nike.” The cities are 500 miles apart and those two brands are polar opposites in terms of their marketing, but the answer is actually “They’re the same.” At least in a manner of speaking, now that the new NIKEiD studio is open at Nike Hong Kong and so is the expansive New Balance Experience store in Shanghai. Covering more than 200 square meters, this massive store matches old world workmanlike decor with the hottest from the brand-without-endorsees. The setup makes total sense when you consider that NB is headquartered in Boston, so be sure to check out their new Shanghai setup.

New Balance WRC576FR – Spring 2010

Take one iconic running shoe, add a hiking boot, some crayons and blend until smooth. That’s the recipe for this pack of New Balance WRC576FRs, who come to us in two rainbow colourways. One of them has the primary colours plus brown on the tongue, while the other has a sort of American Southwest-styled palette. Both take the NB576 running silhouette up to a midtop boot complete with metal eyelet loops, plus a rugged textured sole. Expect to see both pairs in New Balance retailers soon; they just popped up at Korea’s Kasina.

New Balance Fall/Winter 2010 Collection @ COMPASS

New Balance got lucky at COMPASS this year. Their own logo looks quite a bit like the font in place at the trade show in NYC, so if you didn’t know any better, you might think ‘NB’ was where the needle points north. Up in Boston, they put together a FW ‘10 collection that looks like they expect things to stay somewhat drab when it gets cold (is it ever going to get warm?).

Looks like the immortal 574 and 576s, the lightweight 320 and 455 are all done in earthy tones with rich materials like canvas and tumbled leather. Solebox x New Balance 1500 – 1 of 1 Samples

Geez, Louise; talk about exclusive. There have been a decent amount of limited releases of all different kinds that are specifically numbered, either in large quantities like the Air Jordan 1 Royal Blue, or smaller amounts like the Stash x Nike Air Classic BW. Check out this pair of Solebox x New Balance 1500, numbered 1 of 1. Yes, you are indeed looking at an object that does not exist anywhere else in the world (that we know of), AND yes, they are samples, which takes away from the mystique just a little bit. Apparently New Balance and long-time and frequent collaborator Solebox wanted everyone to know that these were indeed the only pair in existence, based on the billboard of sorts on the tongue. New Balance P790CT – Boston Celtics – Green – White

The greatest sports rivalries can bring people together or tear them apart; i’ll tune in whenever the Yanks play the Sox or when OSU huddles up against U of M, but i’d rather jump off a cliff than wear a Phillies hat. Sport without rivalry takes away an emotional aspect that takes the game to a level beyond cheering and booing, into the realm of hatred and irrational behavior. One of these great rivalries defined an entire era of basketball; the Los Angeles Lakers vs. the Boston Celtics. Never before or after have we seen such talent consolidated into two teams facing off against each other over and over again.

New Balance has recognized this iconic head-to-head match-up and released two pairs of their classic New Balance P790CT, one in a Boston Celtics colourway and another in a Lakers colourway that we previewed days ago. It features the old-school design of the 80’s with a super-high cut, and more NBA Team colourways may be on the way. Both pairs are available at shelta.

New Balance is best known not only for their line-up of casual running/walking shoes but also for their manufacturing presence in the US and across the pond in the United Kingdom. What New Balance is not readily recognized for is their basketball sneakers; you won’t see many NBA players wear them these days. If that’s the case, let’s take it back a few decades to the 80s, when the New Balance P790LK was a popular high-top basketball shoe. It returns today in a quintessential Lakers color-combo to give props to the NBA Champion Lakers. A white leather upper, perforations on the rear panel, and a sky-high tongue are other defining features. Like the adidas Phantom II NBA Collection, expect more team colourways of the New Balance P790LK soon, or buy your Lakers colourway from shelta.

New Balance Tropical Cocktail Pack

New Balance hit us with a candy-themed pack last spring, and like much of the streetwear/sneaker world, it looks like their tastes have matured. Last year it was two runners for the candy pack, this year they’re adding two basketball sneakers and gulping down a Tropical Cocktail Pack.

There are two P600s, with the men’s still kinda looking like Skittles and the ladies’ edition going with a retro criss-crossing colourway. The dual C1001 runners are more in line with the name, and might resemble a stratified shot, but even that’s a bit of a stretch. Appropriately named or not, these are still worth looking out for, so stick with Sneaker News for updates. via Kenlu

HECTIC x mita x New Balance MT580 – Dark Grey – Black

The three-headed monster of HECTIC, mita sneakers and New Balance continues to bring us fresh new takes on some classic New Balance styles. This MT580 gets a crisp winter look courtesy of a dark grey and black suede upper with some tasteful splashes of white and red and a set of bright yellow laces. Like with the other recent collabos from this team, the shoe flaunts a HECTIC pennant lace lock as a stylish finishing touch.
