Dubai in and of itself is sort of a hybrid city, caught between embracing a massive wave of development and maintaining its cultural heritage as a capital of the Arab world. Touching on that status is this crazy custom design from Nash dubbed the ‘Bedouin’ and produced for the recent Sole DXB sneaker show, which blends the luxurious upper of the Visvim FBT with the retro tech of the New Balance 1500 sole kit on bottom. The result is, as to be expected, pretty unlike any sort of customization we’ve ever seen before, with the cross-branding choices successfully pairing up two totally different footwear fields. Every major sneaker brand out there is going to capitalize on the Olympic Games in London this summer, but only one of them actually manufactures sneakers in the United Kingdom. And with New Balance‘s Flimby, England factory also celebrating its 30th anniversary, NB might turn out to be the brand that most rivals Nike’s likely untouchable variety. It’s hard to argue with the performance that comes with the New Balance 890, paired with the Union Jack and its colors on this eye-catching ‘British Miler’ colorup. Created to celebrate the 1500M race that’s considered the middle distance standard, this lightweight design might make Reebok a bit jealous, but they’re guaranteed comfort that you can see in greater detail after the jump.

Imagine this is like one of those word problems you spent so much time practicing for entrance exams and compute the following: New Balance’s 574 is one of the modern standards by which classic running sneakers are judged, while the 575 remains fairly obscure save a few key collaborative releases. The 576 is on par with the 574 in terms of both popularity and variety of styles available, so what should we expect from the 577? It might have been just another odd-numbered also-ran at one point, but ever since Perth’s HAL double-resurrected it for the ‘Day n Night’ pack, this 1989 classic has been building the kind of momentum that’s resulted in dope in-house designs like this plum New Balance M577PU. Have a closer look after the jump below, then grab yours at select NB retailers like SNS.

Let’s continue our trip around the globe to Berlin, where Solemart made a stop this past weekend. It’s clearly dominated by the adidas three stripes, as tables and displays are rife with classic runners and vintage items that most of you probably can’t even remember, but there’s love for all brands out there as New Balance, Saucony, Nike, and Jordan all shared an equal bit of the spotlight. Sneaker events down in Australia and other gatherings in South Korea prove that the worldwide love for laces and suede is getting stronger by the year, but if you can’t see that the sneaker game outside of the States is totally different, you don’t want to miss this recap of Solemart Berlin 2012. We’ve got a nice crop of recap photos below so take a look and see if you can spot any gems that you never see in the States, and head on over to shoetown50 for a full recap of this sick event.

Nike Sportswear’s Air Force 1 30th anniversary seems to be slightly slowing as we approach the Olympic summer as well as the Air Max 1 and Air Safari birthdays. Elsewhere in the sneaker birthday world, New Balance continues following their own deliberate pace, steadily moving forward as we approach the release of a drop commemorating three decades of attention to detail at their UK factories. The New Balance 576 will release in three colorways later this year designed by workers at the Flimby, England, manufacturing plant, their wordy tongue tags dictating that if we were to label these like some of their other products, they’d come with a ’30 Years of Manufacture in the UK’ nickname. Maybe the ‘Excellence Makers’ tag NB used for an earlier video that showed Andy Mandle, Billy Edgar and Roy Bell’s SMUs would be the most appropriate title, but the understated designs on this trio suggest that kind of detail isn’t as important as the craftsmanship that went into them. New Balance doesn’t typically indulge in the kind of hype we’ve come to expect from other major brands, so seeing these for a third time in 2012 feels like a huge tease. At least we now know these New Balance 1500s are slated to arrive at select retailers in August, which makes it look like there might not be any new colors dropping for Q2. These should be worth the wait, though, their rich grey and navy suede uppers leaning just enough so as to thoroughly embrace your choice of orange or vibrant blue accents. Both of these can be seen up close after the jump, so let us know what you think and stick with Sneaker News for word on the US release. via HB

The New Balance classic lineup is operating at the peak of its powers with a huge selection of different models and colorways to satisfy the fans of these old school styles. This month brings along four pairs spread across three models that, around this time last year, weren’t playing as big a role in the NB catalog. Increased variety as demonstrated on two New Balalance 420s in tonal suede/nylon blends as well as the ‘Denim Blue’ takes on the 998 and 1300 mean that sneakerheads who gravitate toward that vintage style will be thrilled the next time they arrive at a NB retailer like Kith in New York.

Sneakerheads know all about how important colors can be, everything from the signature shades that give popular releases their nicknames to the standouts among those that set wider trends. It’s those large-scale cultural movements that the visual buffet that is Pantonism offers immediately upon your first visit, its arrangement of fashion into intuitive color skews that give insight into the overlap between labels each season. In the case of Ronnie Fieg this spring, a special mixture of grey and blue come together to define his appropriated ‘Steel Blue’ colorway on the New Balance 999 and some of the visuals that inspire their elegance. Click through to see some new shots of the shoe itself and let us know how which color skew best defines your current look.
