Last week’s news of the upcoming Mavrk 3 sharing its sole with Eric Koston’s first Nike SB signature has the skate sneaker world buzzing with the possibility of an action sports mega-union between SB and Nike 6.0, and it was the sharp improvement in the latter in recent months that seems to add credence to this prediction. Nike Six is stronger than ever thanks to a series of new designs, and three of those just hit retailers around the country. We’ll star with the Nike 6.0 Zoom Le Shot LR, which is based on the classic Killshot court shoe SB is expected to soon offer among their own LunarLon-cushioned, vulc-soled range. They’re joined by a grey tumbled leather take on the Braata Mid 6.0, a model whose casual appeal is bested only by the all new Rizal Low Premium 6.0, a gumsoled chukka whose corded laces and lack of lining suggest they’re perfect for ‘lifestyle’ purposes. Mallgoing sneakerheads and those abreast of Nike’s machinations within the action sports market realize that the 6.0 division has seen a marked improvement in terms of design and customer acceptance in recent years, owing at least in part to their closer imitation of big brother Nike SB. And with SBs now available more widely than ever before, it’s not entirely shocking to see some convergence in these forces at your local promenade, but this could still turn out to be some very significant news moving into 2012.
Catalog images confirm further crossover between Nike SB and 6.0, notable combinations including the upcoming Mavrk 3 and its Eric Koston 1-borrowed sole that’s a little bit more surprising than seeing the Zoom FC with the Future Primitive bottoms. Also on the way soon is the LunarLon cushioned P-Rod 5 LR and the series next rendition, the Nike SB P-Rod 6. Add to that rumors about the availability of the entire Nike SB line as it relates to traditional skate shops vs. mall retailers, and fans of Swoosh skate shoes have a curious new trajectory for the immediate future. It’s not exactly a trend in the truest sense of the word, but the last year-plus of Sneaker News regarding Nike 6.0 footwear indeed proves that there’s a marked upward swing in the Swoosh’s action sports brand’s quality. Nike Six might never overtake its big brother SB in terms of street cred or collectability, but the use of LunarLon footbeds on the new Nike 6.0 Braata LR and Zoom LeShot LR allow for the same kind of extra-cushioned vulcanized soles that improve feel and comfort. The last time we saw the Nike WMNS 6.0 Dunk High with the ‘Sherpa’ look the timing just didn’t feel right. Sure the look was nice, but who’s going to wear furry sneakers in the middle of August? This go around feels much more apropos, with the new oxen brown colorway dropping right in time for winter. The men already got the chance to rock the outerwear look on skate sneakers with the Nike SB Dunk Mid Pro ‘Patagonia’, so we’re sure the women appreciate getting their chance with this clean looking pair. From the heavy fleece protruding from the uppers to the detailed double colored boot laces, this release from Nike 6.0 really is the complete package. Nike 6.0 Dunks are becoming more aesthetically pleasing and readily available, so just as was the case with the pair we showed you in July with identical color and material blocking patterns, this latest release is sure to increase the percentage of Nike Six releases in the streets. This new Dunk High SE 6.0 goes with a black, white and Varsity Royal combo that could easily be seen as a reference to the Air Jordan 1, but unlike the OG ‘J-Pack’ colorway upon which it’s based, this new drop has quite a bit of suede mixed in with its black leather base. The ’Un-Plum’ Dunk High SB just released a short while ago, and while that colorway was inspired by one of the pre-SB Dunk Low Pro B colorways, this new look from Nike Six is also separated by a couple degrees. Imagine red laces and Swooshes on this new Nike 6.0 WMNS Dunk High and you’ll see exactly what we mean, this purple and grey Dunk High for ladies adding a bit of extra pizzazz thanks to the silver-leaning base layer along with croc-like texturing on the suede overlay.
