We won’t blame people if they thought that the “Area 72″ version of the Nike Air Force Max 2013 would be the best of that sneaker’s colorways to ever arrive. Those just may have been topped though by this, a much more traditional looking “Grape” take on the slightly remixed shoe. Do you prefer this lowkey version to the wild graphics and glow in the dark treatment found on the aforementioned All-Star release? complex history of streetball sneakers Complexs Complete History of Streetball Sneakers

Sneakers specific tuned for outdoor play are sort of a dying breed at the moment, with not too many of the XDR joints and the like making huge noise here in the US at the moment. The category perhaps reached its peak back in the 90s, when companies were eager to cater to players who didn’t have access to real deal hardwood, a goal that also allowed them to inject some more “street” imagery into the associated campaigns. Check out some streetball models culled from the history books after the jump and let us know in the comments.

nike air force iii pigeon 4 Nike Air Force III Pigeon Customs by KLR Whales

The Pigeon concept is nothing new to sneaker customs, but we gotta show props to KLR Whales for this one. For one, he uses a forgotten model that hasn’t seen the light of day in years, and the pair he transformed wasn’t some clean, DS pair right off the shelves, but a used one that he took out of his closet. That’s an awesome mix of restoration and customizing (the flannel lining was originally part of the shoe) that we haven’t seen many fellas pull off. A gallery is just below so take a look and let us know what you think about this unusual yet impressive mix.
