what the dunk nike sb The First Nike What The Sneaker

There has been much “What The” talk this week as Nike Basketball officially unveiled the wild What the LeBron 11 and What the KD 6 styles. For those that don’t know, the Nike SB “What the Dunk” creation from back in 2007 was the first Swoosh shoe featuring a mash up style, with a ton of classic Dunk releases decorating the asymmetric set. It wasn’t until the Nike Kobe VII in 2012 that Nike Basketball eventually picked up on the theme, but since then, the “What The” has been a go-to concept for creating high energy around the shoes. Regarding the Dunks; these were incredibly limited in release (no more than 300, allegedly), and were sold in conjunction with the launch of Nike SB’s first film “Nothing but the Truth”, and released only where the film was being screened. Continue reading for a detailed look at this Nike SB classic, a brainchild of designer James Arizumi, and then check out how much a pair will fetch you today on eBay.

fragment design nike blazer low fragment design x Nike Blazer Low

It’s not easy to quantify the number of Nike sneakers that Fragment Design and Hiroshi Fujiwara have contributed to, thanks to the latter’s part in the mighty HTM design collective. Ending up with the Fragment stamp rather than the HTM one is this upcoming release previewed by Fujiwara himself, which features a clean beige makeup for the Nike Blazer Low silhouette (As far as we can tell this one isn’t of the SB variety). Take a full look at the shoes after the break and check back in on Sneaker News for release info.

Nike continues to break the rules of sneaker collaborating – in recent months they’ve teamed up with high end fashion designers, their own subsidiaries, and now an NYC restaurant in the form of this pair of Nike SB Dunk Highs from Eddie Huang’s Baohaus. The “Chairman Bao” sneaker is named after Huang’s most popular dish and features a nappy suede upper, an icy outsole, and a graphic insole not seen here that features a macro shot of that munchie. The Nike SB Dunk High has developed a bit of a thing for nappy suede uppers. It started with the Tauntauns, then rested for a bit before picking up last year with the ‘Vanilla Suede’ joints. This year, we’ve seen one pair with a St. Johns-y look to it, that Border Blue ice-soled BaoHaus collab and now this new pair with its own BTTYS-ish mix of black and Base Grey. A hint of Venom Green really sets these off and you can see more angles after the jump before copping from shops like Premier.

Nike SB Dunk Low “Giraffe”

nike sb dunk low giraffe 1 Nike SB Dunk Low Giraffe

During this era when animal prints have become so common, giraffe is one of the few that remains relatively obscure.  A dope new Nike SB Dunk Low is about to put it to good use, with the underlay of an otherwise black pair taking on that sort of polygonal two-tone brown print.  It looks fantastic on a white/gum sole and the inclusion of red embroidery at the heel really sets off a subtle design; speaking of subtle, where’s the tongue tag?  Stick with Sneaker News for all the latest on what looks like it could be an April drop and let us know how these compare to the various Safari, Elephant and other printed SB Dunks.
