Michael Jordan doesn’t like to fail. In fact, he’s recited one of the most inspiring speeches on ‘failure’ in a memorable Air Jordan commericial years back, and how his failures has led to his many successes. One thing he learned about being an average-at-best baseball player was to get back on the NBA court, and although MJ would’ve loved another shot to redeem himself, the lockout didn’t allow him that opportunity and instead MJ went on the pedestrian route and tallied a mere threepeat from ’96 to ’98. Here we have a look at one of the rarer pieces of the Air Jordan pool – a Black/Red PE made just for Jordan on the diamond; with three great Air Jordan X Retros having just passed us, how sick would an all-leather colorway just like this one be? A ‘reverse’ Chicago of sorts? Check out the extra shots below and let us know what you’d think of such a concept, and see the entire listing from pdarmos on eBay.

Tom Sachs’ NIKECraft is currently up for viewing at the Park Ave Armory in the Upper East Side in NYC, so if you do plan on attending (it runs through June 17th), keep an eye out for this special Cole Haan x Nike wingtip dress shoe worn by the NIKECraft crew. While wingtip shoes aren’t all that new to fashion, this particular pair features a Swoosh on the upper, with the classic wingtip dots along the border, as well as a Nike tag on the tongue Peep the outsole and you’ll see Waffle-like traction on the forefoot and heel as well. Definitely one of the coolest projects we’ve seen, so take a look at the extra images below and be sure to check out the Tom Sachs’ NIKECraft exhibit before it closes! Photos: selectism

The Knicks’ season is done and Linsanity failed to make a reappearance (for what it’s worth, it’s would’ve been wiser for Lin to keep that knee healthy than making a feeble attempt at postponing the Knicks’ inevitable fall to the Heat), but Nike’s keeping the excitement alive with a second release of the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Low ‘Linsanity’ PE. Featuring a Black/Orange colorway and the bold-faced LINSANITY detailing on the insole, this second release should Lin in the conversation for sure as he enters into restricted free agency as a hot commodity (his upside as a player and marketing figure is very high). Will the Knicks match any offer, or is the price of keeping Linsanity in the Big Apple too much for the Knicks? We’ll wait for the NBA season to come to close to revisit that conversation, so check out these new images of Lin’s second Hyperdunk 2011 Low release and we’ll keep you updated on a release. Cleveland rookie point guard Kyrie Irving has just been awarded the 2012 NBA Rookie Of The Year award, joining a lineage of superstars-in-the-making that are destined for success at the highest level of competition. In just 30 minutes a game, Kyrie displayed a scoring prowess at the position matched by those who are considered ‘elite’ point guards, all while developing into an NBA-level playmaker by averaging 5.4 assists and pulling down 3.7 rebounds a night. Needless to say, Cleveland is 2-for-2 with their #1 overall picks in the last decade and the doubts sparked by the ‘Duke curse’ have largely been put the bed, but discussions haven’t ceased because the matter of Kyrie’s commercial starpower is still under the microscope. We know he’s an official Nike athlete as he’s worn a Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 PE throughout the season, but is he worthy of being the next Nike signature athlete?
Today’s basketball sneaker scene is dominated by signature sneakers. Period. LeBrons continue to set the pace for Nike Basketball, the Zoom Kobe series enjoys utter dominance in both Asia and the U.S. and the Zoom KD line has sprouted immensely after a slow and steady process of cultivation through the first three signature models. The Hyperdunk 2011, despite being a top-tier high-performance shoe, gained much of its notoriety in the sneaker scene thanks to the exploits of Blake Griffin, who viciously dunked his way into stardom by the middle of his rookie season. It’s quite clear that a big name plays an integral role in driving a sneaker’s success, and with the youngest Nike sig reaching a fifth volume later this year, it’s time to bring in some new blood. Whether or not Kyrie Irving is not only worthy, but capable of carrying such a prestigious accolade comes into question, so we’ll break it down because the answer, quite simply, is not clear.

It was a tough going for Laker Nation yesterday evening as the OKC Thunder came out firing on all cylinders, closing out Game 1 by a margin of 29 points. Kobe will need to channel the seventh step of the KobeSystem to move the Lakers onto the Western Conference Finals, so let’s hope he continues bringing out the sick PEs, like his Yellow/Black Kobe VII Supreme (reminiscent of the Kobe VI ‘Lightbulb’) last night; just a few hints of red and you’ve got a legit take on the Bruce Lees (that seriously need to come back, doesn’t it?). More of Kobe and his Game 1 PEs after the jump (as well as some close-up shots) so take a look and let us know what you think. Photos: espn

This postseason has been quite a showcase for sick kicks thus far. Gilbert Arenas wore the Air Jordan IV ‘Lightning’, Nick Young whipped out the Metallic Red Foamposites, and Kawhi Leonard of the Spurs rotated some white/black/grey Air Jordans during the First Round. It was only a matter of time that Ray Allen would shut down the competition with a PE of his own, and did so during Game 2 of Boston’s series against the Philadelphia Sixers with the Air Jordan VIII ‘Home’ PE; although the Celtics lost the game, Ray led the Celtics with 17 points off the bench. Is this the best NBA Feet sighting of the Playoffs thus far? Check out Ray and his kicks below and let us know what you think. Photos: espn

Is Diana Taurasi the ‘LeBron James’ of the WNBA/women’s basketball? It’s hard to say that another version of LBJ exists in another sport (maybe Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals, although Cole Hamels might not think so), but Diana Taurasi was poised to change the WNBA and carry the torch with her legacy as a winner in UConn and has accomplished all that she can thus far, winning a WNBA Title and Finals MVP as well as earning a league MVP and a consistent flow of yearly accolades. Taurasi, however, has been doing her best LeBron impression on-court as her Player Exclusives of LeBrons have been one of the more hard-to-find collectibles, even for the most hardcore of LeBron hoarders. Her latest LeBron PE comes in Team USA colors, as she and her fellow American femme-ballers are touring around and playing exhibition games (USAB just dismantled China by the score of 100-62). More of Diana’s LeBrons after the jump! Photos: yahoo

Just a small handful of games went down over the weekend, but what the NBA lacked in number, it overcompensated with heated competition and some new sneaks! The Los Angeles Clippers finally put away the tough Memphis Grizzlies as Chris Paul and his CP3.V led the Clippers to victory. Teammate Nick Young wore the best kicks though, wearing the Air Foamposite One ‘Metallic Red’ to match the Away uni. On the other side, Rudy Gay of the Memphis Grizzles brought back the Air Max Tempo in White/Navy. The other LA squad advanced to the second round as well, led by Kobe Bryant who wore the ‘Lakers’ colorway of the Zoom Kobe VII ‘Dart Frog’. The East was already on the Semi-Finals round of play, as LeBron wore the LeBron 9 ‘MVP’ and teammate Dwyane Wade chipped in with the Fly Wade 2 EV. Paul George, who has been Kobe VII-friendly this season, broke out the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite ‘Away’. The final game of the weekend was between Philly and Boston, led by Rajon Rondo’s Zoom Huarache 2K4 iD. More of the NBA below, so take a look and stay tuned for more! Photos: espn
