What happens when you take a shoe named for its most commonly used material, then introduce it to something new? In the case of the Puma Classic Suede ‘Wool’ Pack, it works extremely well, perhaps because the model’s namesake stuff and these particular renditions offer a lovely blend of fuzzy textures. All three of these fall 2013 colorways are done in dark colors, even the red edition that’s a few shades darker than brick. When you ask a sneakerhead to name 1987 running shoes, dollars to donuts, their response will be Nike Air Max 1. Perhaps it was because Nike was facing such stiff competition that they came up with a revolutionary approach. Other brands were cranking out quality at that time (several forgotten adidas ZX models come to mind), and today we set our sights on the Puma TX-3. It’s got that quintessential late ’80s look with the suede and mesh upper, dual density wedge sole and prominent external heel counter, and these two colorways are straight up old school. Puma seems to be releasing Steppers in packs of three. The last three sets we’ve seen also coincidentally center around the same three main colors, so the material selection and use of patterns is what gives each its identity. Following up on the ‘Rugged’ and ‘Animal’ packs comes the simplest style yet for 2013, the Puma Stepper Classic in suede uppers with white contrasts. Red, blue and black colorways give you the bold primary look that we associate with classic sneakers, and you can see each member of the trio from more angles below before buying at stores like SNS.

Puma Basket Classic Luxe Camo

The latest duo of Puma Basket colorways are mirror images of one another. Both are crafted entirely in rich black and brown leathers, whose distributions are inverted from one pair to the other. The constants between them include the cream-colored cupsole and Basket Classic Luxe Camo distinction, which indicates a camouflage footbed which appears to have a top layer made from rugged ripstop nylon. Animal print suede is a recent development that’s given the recent wild pattern trend a boost in the footwear department. The latest examples come from the German Cat, as the Puma Suede and Stepper take on three leopard-accented colorways each. The Suedes are mostly leopard with solid Formstripes, while the Steppers roughly invert this distribution, with the rosettes applied to just the ankle collar.
