The year 2013 seems far away, but we’re approaching the mid-point of 2012 – so it’s coming sooner than you think. As you may already know Nike Sportswear has celebrated the 25th Anniversary of its 1987 models by re-releasing them to the public, and a look at this 2013 sample of the Nike Air Trainer ’88 may allude to a return of all the ’88 models (or we can at least expect this Black/Grey/Hot Red sample with reflective uppers). But before you move on to the gallery, we should clear some clutter regarding Air Trainer nomenclature of the last two decades. The ‘Air Trainer ’88′ isn’t the Air Trainer ’88. Sure, it released in 1988, but this model is actually called the Nike Air Trainer TW (none of the original models were given any yearly designation).

So why all the confusion regarding Air Trainer names and such? It started getting a bit ‘out of hand’ (for lack of a better description) between ’87 and ’94 because forty-two different Training and Cross-Training models were released – most of which had the wore ‘Trainer’ in the official name. When the Auburn/Bo Jacksons were re-released, they were called the Air Trainer SC, when it fact the original name was Air Trainer SC III. Moving on from that point, there has been some jumbling of names and Nike hasn’t recovered since. The ‘TW’ line in question debuted in 1988 and was advertised as a lightweight and washable shoe as it was built with ‘washable’ materials like mesh, and based on this sample, it appears ‘TW’ isn’t making a comeback at all and will return simply as the Air Trainer ’88. In 2006, Jordan Brand re-released the Air Jordan VII is a variety of colorways new and old. The ‘new’? The Flints, Chambrays, Pacific Blues, etc.. The ‘old’? The Cardinals. The ‘not at all’? The Air Jordan VII Low, seen here for the first time since it was created years ago. Low-top Air Jordans have been a strong parallel to the Mid from the very start, as low-cut AJ1s and AJ2s were produced during the originals years, and only later did Jordan Brand dabble with the shorter stature with its later Air Jordans until the early 2000 Retro releases. The Air Jordan V, VI and VIII, for example, were reproduced as Lows, but never the VII, although it’s apparent that these samples were originally intended to become available in the Spring 2006 season alongside the other Retro colorways mentioned earlier. This White/Citrus Orange/Blue colorway is actually quite a nice Summer colorway, but the focus is obviously on the build of the shoe rather than the colors used. The 360 Max Air influence has spread upon the classic ACG catalog as we get a first look at two sample colorways of the Nike Air Max Terra Sertig, previewed here on Sneaker News a few short weeks ago. It matches the rugged yet stylish appeal of the Terra Sertig re-constituted with the all-sport Max Air sole, and despite a rather seamless final product, many of our readers preferred the original to the new ‘Air’ package seen here. The two you see here are just samples, according to Asian retailer Passover, so whether or not these will in fact release during the intended Holiday 2012 season is yet to be finalized, so check out both shoes below and let us know if these actual photos change your mind.

Ray Allen took home the 2011-12 NBA Feet PE Championship thanks to new additions to the sickest Air Jordan player exclusive library this side of Michael Jordan himself.  Given the energy surrounding designs like his black/green Air Jordan XIIIs or the Martin Luther King Day 12s, wouldn’t Jordanheads go absolutely insane over the pair pictured above?  While not specifically named or seen as a Sugar Ray SMU, this Air Jordan XII‘s metallic green upper and its even-cleaner-than-’Cool Grey’ blocked white accents is a natural match for the NBA’s all-time three-point king.  They also have a pearly, almost Foamposite-like sheen that we recently saw on an AJXVI sample earlier this month; would you have purchased designs like these, had the ‘anodized’ look been extended beyond the AJ1 and Six Rings?  Let us know when you click through to see more images of one of the more impressive unreleased Air Jordan samples we’ve seen in recent memory and stick with Sneaker News for updates after you check out the auction from brokeonjordans on eBay.

Here’s an interesting thought: is there anyone in the NBA that should act as an ambassador to the Air Penny line, much like how Dwyane Wade continued the Air Jordan legacy until he gained his own signature shoe? There aren’t too many players that have Penny’s game, which can best be described as an amalgam of point guard instinct, shooting guard scoring, and small forward athleticism. It would be quite the surprising move if Nike created take-down Air Penny models and seeded them out to its Nike athletes, so who do you think would be on ‘Team Penny’? Footwear brands have embarked upon and emphatic push to re-live the 1990′s era of footwear, and if it’s going to be done, it has to be done right. News of the return of two memorable Reebok Shaq models in 2013 was one of the more exciting headlines of the week, but the day before, we laid our eyes on a Reebok Shaqnosis inspired revamp loosely dubbed the Reebok Shaqnosis 2012; industry sources soon confirmed that those samples were scrapped for now, but today we get a detailed look at two would-be colorways of the Shaqnosis – one in the OG-inspired White/Black and another in Black/Royal.
