During an era when patterned prints have added to the expressive possibilities of eye-catching colorways, a few stand out above the rest. Snake scales have cooled down a little bit after dominating the six months before and after Chinese New Year 2013, which leaves camouflage and feline prints as the two superpowers. Vans has issued a variety of both looks, and yet they still find a novel approach with duck camo on these new Vans Era and Slip-On lowtops. Everything about these is subtly packed with personality, right down to the veggie tan leather ‘moustache’ on each pair’s heels. Check out both in greater detail, then grab yours straight from Vans.

Following the extremely limited F&F pairs that have gotten the ‘Bring Back’ treatment for 2013, Undefeated released a Dunk High NL to retail in 2005 that can be seen to foreshadow a period of bold new colorway expressions. UNDFTD has yet to contribute to an SB collab, but here’s a Nike SB Dunk High sample that has a bit of overlap with the NLs thanks to its mix of brown, aqua and a Cotton Candy-ish pink. It appears these could have been a collaboration in their own right, given the unexplained logo on the tongue tag. Let us know if you recognize the insignia, and if you would have purchased these had they hit retail.

Tyler Eklund’s life changed forever in 2007 when the fourteen year old snowboarder was paralyzed from a fall at the USASA Nationals. The snowboarding community responded to support the uninsured teen with proceeds from the now annual Dirksen Derby, an event that kicked off around the same time as this Nike SB Dunk High was apparently created. The wild mix of materials and colors has Ecklund’s name stitched into the tongue tag, which provides clarity on this supposed ‘What the Dunk’ High that appeared at the Nike SB 10th anniversary event last November at Sixth and Mill. Refresh your memory with more images below and stick with Sneaker News for more rarities.

‘Caution, Flammable’ and ‘Warning, Explosive’ should both be heeded, but their precise meanings are also fairly different. Perhaps this is a sign that like last year’s Levi’s collaborations, the ‘Red Firecracker’ Nike SB Dunk Low could be the more limited counterpart to the established black ‘Firecracker’. With the Levi’s Dunks, the indigo Hyperstrike climbed to a higher resale value than the slightly more widely available black Quickstrike. Whatever the numbers for these fireworks-themed pairs, the relative intensity of the embroidered message most certainly resonates with the burst of energy in its red suede upper. Stick with Sneaker News for release info and let us know which of the Firecracker SB Dunks you like better.

The latest pack from Vans OTW revisits a name and theme originally created by Supreme four years ago. The Vans OTW Disruptive Pack brings together three models in a style similar to that marbled 2009 pack from ‘Preme, though this time the motif is a bit closer to Elephant print than a spiral notebook cover. The Vans OTW Alomar, Bedford and Ludlow are depicted further after the jump, so have a closer and get ready because they hit select OTW stockists in June.
