The year 2013 seems far away, but we’re approaching the mid-point of 2012 – so it’s coming sooner than you think. As you may already know Nike Sportswear has celebrated the 25th Anniversary of its 1987 models by re-releasing them to the public, and a look at this 2013 sample of the Nike Air Trainer ’88 may allude to a return of all the ’88 models (or we can at least expect this Black/Grey/Hot Red sample with reflective uppers). But before you move on to the gallery, we should clear some clutter regarding Air Trainer nomenclature of the last two decades. The ‘Air Trainer ’88′ isn’t the Air Trainer ’88. Sure, it released in 1988, but this model is actually called the Nike Air Trainer TW (none of the original models were given any yearly designation).
So why all the confusion regarding Air Trainer names and such? It started getting a bit ‘out of hand’ (for lack of a better description) between ’87 and ’94 because forty-two different Training and Cross-Training models were released – most of which had the wore ‘Trainer’ in the official name. When the Auburn/Bo Jacksons were re-released, they were called the Air Trainer SC, when it fact the original name was Air Trainer SC III. Moving on from that point, there has been some jumbling of names and Nike hasn’t recovered since. The ‘TW’ line in question debuted in 1988 and was advertised as a lightweight and washable shoe as it was built with ‘washable’ materials like mesh, and based on this sample, it appears ‘TW’ isn’t making a comeback at all and will return simply as the Air Trainer ’88. If you want some clarification on the matter, check out the original Nike ad of the Air Trainer TW below as well as the full gallery of this 2013 sample, and for a complete look, move on to the listing from dballaholic on eBay.

Is there really a lot to complain about in 2012? Sure, prices have gone up and synthetic leathers aren’t as supple as the real thing, but Nike’s focus on bringing back some of the best sneakers from the pre-Y2K era is paying off for the older sneakerheads, who live and die by the White/Cements and Nike Turf Trainers of the world. Luckily for us, both of those have been brought back this year, and Sneaker News first dropped images of the Air Speed Turf Max Retro, slated to hit in the Summer/Fall season. This first look at a White/Black/Blue/Red colorways absolutely screams ‘I GOT A RING’ as it features a perfect New York Giants outfit that’ll certainly be a popular pick once these hit stores (perfect to match your new Nike NFL uniforms and gear). More images below, so take a look and stay tuned for a look at yet another new colorway of the Air Speed Turf Max! Photos: kumastock

The popularity of Nike Sportswear’s latest trainer hybrid can be best summed up with a recent comment from Sneaker News reader ‘retrotek’ on an earlier teal-accented drop: “This is some Jerry Seinfeld.” retro’s feedback reminds us that Seinfeld’s eponymous lead is not only one of the great TV sneakerheads of all-time, but he’s known for a specific style thanks to the time period in which Larry David’s first show peaked. During roughly that same period, cultural influences including the Charlotte Hornets, Air Jordan V ‘Grape’ and VIII ‘Aqua’ tought us the joys of tertiary colors. The New Green accents on this new Nike Air Trainer Classic not only combine perfectly with Deep Royal Blue to hearken back to the golden era, but also reinforce that initial movement’s key value: it’s a vibrant colorway with supreme versatility ready for pairing with almost anything you’ve got in mind. Check them out in greater detail below, then grab yours from NikeStore.

Boxing fans have been clamoring for a PacMan vs. Pretty Boy fight for several years now, but if a fight were to go down, would the mounting hype lead to an inevitable disappointment in the ring? It would certainly go down as one of the most anticipated fights in history, but clearly the two top-level fighters are flying one different planes of altitude because they’ve yet to brace for a head-on collision. The gear up Manny’s June fight against Timothy Bradley, Nike has just released two new Pacquiao Trainers – the Trainer 1.3 Max Breathe and the Lunar Vapor Trainer; both are available right now at Nikestore so check out the detailed shots below and don’t miss out on either pair!

Nike Trainers have come a long way from the mid-cut forefoot-strapped Air Trainer 1 to the modern-day Free or Air Max-soled renditions we see today. Combining state-of-the-art design and function with one of the most historic Air Trainers of all-time is this sick one-of-one sample of the Nike Air Max TR1 360 designed after Bo Jackson’s ‘Auburn’ colorway of the Nike Air Trainer SC; it clearly takes on some of the most notable details of the Air Trainer SC, like the perforated leather upper and the outrigger fortified by the tensile cables embedded into the material (a predecessor to Flywire, if you will). You won’t ever see these release, but this one-of-one sample is here for your viewing so check out the gallery below and see what the asking price is from identitiesrevealed on eBay.

What happens when you take one of 1987′s standouts, apply almost the exact same motif that made another of that year’s graduating class an instant classic and release them on the twenty-fifth anniversary? One answer is “an instant sell-out”, and another is this new Nike Air Trainer 1 done up to look like the original Air Safari. Sneaker News scooped you this morning on a mid-June Euro drop, and they’ve already started arriving at select Asian retailers. June is poised to be one of the greatest months of the year for sneaker releases with a set-list consisting of the Nike LeBron 9 ‘Miami Vice’, the Air Jordan XII ‘Obsidian’, and the yet-t0-be-postponed Air Yeezy 2, but give some credit to the Air Safari Pack, which is set for a release very soon. Part of the pack is a true Retro of the Air Safari 1 (minus the leather lined interior – the OG has a plush material) and the Air Trainer 1 in a Safari-precision concept. While a concrete date hasn’t been set for the U.S. just yet (although we did give you the heads up on a May/June release), the Nike Air Safari Pack has a release date set for retailers in Europe like Size?, currently scheduled at June 15th, so keep that circled on your calendar if that information applies to you and stay tuned for more solid dates regarding a stateside release.

Warm weather in spring and summer is ideal for training, both for the sunny season sports and those you’ll be playing come wintertime. And with all that activity, it’s essential to pay just as much attention to proper rest and recovery as your diet and exercise form. Jordan Brand hopes to help with the former aspect, offering a casual cooldown sneaker whose quick slip-on appeal has quite a few applications for the active lifestyle. The Jordan RCVR is coming up later this month with a new Wolf Grey and Gym Red colorway that’s a bit more versatile in its matching potential than your average Chicago Bulls palette. Click through to see more angles and look out for these now at Jordan Brand spots. Photos: Dunk
