Vans just showed off a black suede and blue canvas ‘Two Tone’ pack for spring, and they could have just as easily applied that name to this latest trio of releases on their most famous hightop silhouette. The Vans Sk8-Hi trio pictured above opts for the equally inert label ‘Suede Pack’ instead, even for one pair that looks like it was borrowed from the aforementioned set to equal out both packs’ numbers. Brown/black and gold/black leave the overall feel of these more similar to an autumnal release than something slated for spring, but we expect them at retail before the end of March. Have a look at all three below and stick with Sneaker News for updates on the latest Vans releases. via FNG

Read the rest of Vans Sk8-Hi ‘Suede Pack’

Vans has arguably done more for the classic plimsoll design than any other brand since Keds (or maybe even the Liverpool Rubber Company who pioneered the design in the early 19th century?!), but instead of the oxford style, this new model from the Core lineup is constructed more like a derby shoe. That means the eyestay is attached atop the vamp on the new Vans Type II lowtop, though it’s pulled back to protect the ollie area. This results in a model that looks like the logical continuation from Authentic to Era to forty years later, and you can see some of the blocking possibilities in the first four colorways we’ll show you after the jump. While you’re there, let us know how this new design compares to Off the Wall’s established favorites. These’ll be hitting Vans Core retailers in February, so be on the lookout and stick with Sneaker News for new colorways. via FNG

Read the rest of Vans Core Type II

Before Supra started nicknaming every trio of themed sneaker designs they released last summer, there was another massively popular skate brand that utilized this technique. In that way as well as the designs and colors being utilized, the Vans Classics ‘Two Tone’ Pack hearkens to the past, and there’s even the tiniest bit of Magic in these vaguely Orlando-like releases for this NBA All-Star month. But once you strip away all the unnecessary connections, you’re back to black and blue atop a white waffle sole, a look that’s replicated across the Vans Half Cab, Era and 106 Vulc. Click through to see all three and stick with Sneaker News for updates. via FNG

Read the rest of Vans Classics ‘Two Tone’ Pack

With a company whose tagline is ‘Off the Wall’, you come to expect the unexpected, so what will Vans have in store for its fans for the second half of this year? The dominant theme appears to be all-over prints, as we see a variety of the original skate brand’s staple models cast in graphically intense new colorways. The patterns range from a cracked earth-over-camo look that gives you one of those “Why didn’t I think of that?!” moments to a traditional Hawaiian floral look and a few of Vans’ favorite Native American styles sprinkled in for good measure. You can see this variety of Vans Sk8-His, Eras, Slip-Ons and all your other favorites in additional images after the jump, and stick with Sneaker News for updates as they drop later in the year. via HB

Read the rest of Vans Fall/Winter 2012 Footwear Preview

The Vans OTW Collection has brought us a nice variety of skate-inspired casual sneakers since its inception a couple years back, but one thing they haven’t lived up to in the Off the Wall legacy is collaborative frequency. Vans as a whole is one of the industry’s most cooperative brands, but to this point, their OTW group has only shown off preview images of upcoming projects with the likes of Lupe Fiasco and Mr. Cartoon in the wake of the In4mation Bedfords that dropped in late 2010. Today we have word of another drop that’ll likely be limited to the immediate area around the guest designer’s headquarters, a Subcrew x Vans OTW Alomar that’ll make those who can’t get them quite jealous with a rich tonal red mix of suede and patent croc skin. The textural contrast extends to a busy red-on-white patterned sockliner that has us wondering what Freegums’ LeBron 9s might have looked like in an alternate palette. Click through to see the latest example of wild animal application in 2012 and stick with Sneaker News for updates on Subcrew’s OTW Alomar. via UrbanLook

Read the rest of Subcrew x Vans OTW Alomar

Vans team up with Pendleton has already given the California brand a good range of sneakers that have a distinctly ‘native’ feel, but this time around they are doing it without the patterned looks. The upcoming Vans California Native American CA adopts the overall shape of the Vans Sk8-Hi, wiping the lines clean and starting fresh with a more minimal approach. With nubuck uppers in place and the always welcome vulc-sole, this Spring 2012 model manages to ride the line between classic and contemporary.
We’re coming up on the 20th anniversary of Steve Caballero‘s second Vans signature shoe, and in a recent conversation with Complex‘ chief sneakerhead Russ Bengston, the man called ‘Cab’ shared how he got inspiration from other skaters after his original pro model dropped in 1989. Skaters were chopping off the hightop Caballero to make something more suitable for the street skating that’d come into vogue around the turn of the decade, and when Steve himself decided to give it a shot, history was made. 1992 brought us the Vans Half Cab in the form we know and love it today, and Supreme will drop a super-limited special edition pack in honor of the two decade anniversary that revisits the origins of this skateboarding institution.
