This week has been an interesting one in the world of luxury sneaker copycats, as Karl Lagerfeld’s New Balance lawsuit might have thrown a wrench in the game. Apparently not slowing down is Hender Scheme, whose premium leather remix of the Air Jordan 4 just surfaced. If you’re unfamiliar, the Ryo Kashiwazaki run brand has been at this for a minute, rebuilding silhouettes like the Nike Air Force 1 High, the adidas Micropacer, the New Balance 1300, and more. Vans Authentic “Tribe Pack”

Vans has more printed pairs of sneakers on the way in the form of the new “Tribe Pack” Authentic on display here. Pairs include a “Tribal Leaders” and a “Tribal Rug” that are both inspired by traditional Native American textiles. We can’t independently verify the source of those prints, but we trust that Vans is doing the community reference proper justice given their previous signs of solidarity with the likes of the Vans Nibwaakaawin charity collection. Yesterday, news broke that New Balance is suing Karl Lagerfeld over a sneaker being sold by the German fashion designer that features an awfully NB-looking shape, complete with an “K” across the side in place of the usual “N”. That sort of appropriation is nothing new in terms of luxury brands though, and there are plenty of other pairs on the market that owe varying degrees of their DNA to more pedestrian sneaker designs. Legal activity in this realm isn’t an entirely new thing either – Jordan Brand previously chased down Gourmet for their tributes and even New Balance had previous a win in this category following their settlement with Louis Vuitton over a 574 ripoff from 2009.
