Have you ever uncovered any of the vintage copy that Nike supplied to their retail partners back in the day? Shown here is an awesome stylized kit from 1996 that’s got a fold out record design, with an aesthetic that looks to be borrowed from that of legendary jazz label Blue Note Records. The package is titled “The 3-Point Quintet & The Birth of Nike Air” and draws comparisons between the movements of jazz music and those of Nike’s various athletes at the time. Get a look at this vintage Jazz inspired Nike retail ad kit after the jump and see how much it went for from indianaantiquecompany2 on eBay.

Just a couple weeks after the first pair of canvas Vintage Blazer Lows comes a fairly significant leap for this series built around traditional and antiqued aesthetics. The Nike Blazer Low VNTG Canvas switches from a simple two-toned grey/white setup to this new style that features a smooth gradient from deep sky blue to a deeply faded shade at the heel. The overall look is like a sun-induced fading in a world where everything ages with more character, and as such represents a logical progression for the series, which you can pre-order before the May shipment from End.

Nike’s been at the elephant print game for a while now, but did you know they’ve actually made full on elephant shoes before? No, not shoes featuring elephant skin-but shoes made for an elephant. Just one actually-and it was recorded as the biggest piece of footwear Nike has ever created. Shown here is that creation, a predictably massive silhouette designed for an elephant with one leg shorter than the rest. Continue reading for this bizarre piece of Nike history, complete with the remnants of a pink Swoosh, and stay tuned should more of these quirky Nike creations pop up.

What’s the oldest Tinker Hatfield Nike design you can name? We can imagine folks would respond to that with the likes of the Nike Air Max 1 and the Nike Air Trainer 1, but it turns out Tinker was actually doing some homebrew designing way before that. Shown here are the first shoes ever built by Tinker Hatfield, a 1980 design for his daughters. Even back then Tinker wasn’t focused on making your standard baby shoe, as the Swoosh adorned design featured a chunky toe to make the transition from crawling to walking an easier one. See the first ever Tinker Hatfield shoe below and let us know in the comments what you think.

The Vintage edition has dominated recent Air Vortex releases from Nike Sportswear, but here’s a brand new style that looks to make an impact on the summer season. These Nike Air Vortexes for ladies also have the VNTG tag, but instead of the traditional classic colorways and/or pre-yellowed antiquing, this pair emphasizes the old school suede and nylon construction by treating the latter to a gradient combining each pair’s key colors. Have a closer look at Bright Citrus and Hyper Blue styles after the jump, then pre-order yours before they ship in May from Titolo.

Fila is back in a big way, and so is the Fila Grant Hill II, one of their most notable basketball silhouettes from back in the 90s (You know, the ones Tupac famously wore). Of course this time around they’ve been rebranded as the Fila ’96, but aside from the moniker switch up the original flavor is very much intact. Showing off an alternate possibility for the OGs is this autographed prototype, which has a unique “GH FILA” logo on the side, some nubs along the sole that seem to stick out further than those found on the retail release, and a navy nubuck strip around the upper. See more on this vintage, signed sample of the Fila Grant Hill II right below.

The recently unveiled Nike Basketball Elite 2.0 Collection presented LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant as three valiant superheros of the NBA, but this idea actually goes back – way back – twenty years ago to 1993. These vintage print-ads from 1993, created to showcase the heroic advantages of Nike’s basketball shoes, placed a spotlight on the brand’s most advanced athletes like Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson, Alonzo Mourning, and Tim Hardaway, with each player sporting a different model of the now-vintage catalog.

We try and keep you up on what rappers and other celebs are wearing these days in terms of sneakers, but let’s keep in mind that rappers have had the trainer game on lock long before the current bubble of “sneakerhead” interest. Evidence comes here in the form of a handful of classic sneaker-featured album covers of yesteryear. Some that come to mind are Biz Markie in his Nike Air Safari, LL Cool J in some Air Jordan 1s, Three Times Dope with a mean set of Air Jordan IIIs, and the endless Run DMC x adidas moments.
