The Sneaker News March Madness Non-OG Air Jordan Tournament is down two four awesome Jordan Retros, so don’t forget to cast your vote to crown the greatest Air Jordan Retro of all-time. Jordan Brand also introduced a collaboration with Converse while unveiling its May 2012 footwear products. The Air Yeezy 2 returns to the new headlines again, as the release date has been pushed back to June. Nike SB made a headline eight years in the making as another Supreme x SB Dunk was confirmed for 2012. The ‘South Beach’ LeBron 9 Elite continued to be a major story, while the N7 KD IVs gave sneakerheads even more to look forward to. The Air Penny V has three total colorways dropping this Holiday, and a detailed look at the Air Force 1 Foamposite Pro caused intense buzz at the end of the week.
In Nike Sportswear news, the Air Flow hit retailers in two sick colorways, the Air Force 1 iD introduced yet another iconic material option, a ‘Leopard Pack’ for women was previewed, and the Air Diamond Turf II in the Varsity Red 49ers geared up for a release next week. In ‘Feet’ news, Delonte West rocked Galaxy Foams while Gilbert Arenas announced his sneaker-comeback by wearing the Playstation PE of the Huarache TR Mid. Chicago Bears teammates Devin Hester and Earl Bennett took their sneaker battle to Twitter, but none of their collections could stand up to this week’s massive Air Jordan PE/Sample/OG round-up, which featured game-worn and autographed Space Jam ’45′ Samples. Sneaker News continues our March Madness Tournament as we opened up the Sweet 16 Round of voting, featuring 8 hardcore match-ups in a battle for Air Jordan Retro supremacy. Perhaps if we ran another similar tournament in a few years, the Air Jordan XII ‘Cool Grey’ will have a shot, as we got a great detailed look this week in both mens and kids sizes. The LeBron 9 Elite was another major topic this week, as we got a look at the ‘South Beach/McFly’ colorway and an initial preview of the Varsity Maize version. The gradient fade option returned to Nike iD for the Kobe VII, allowing for some stunning colorways, while the red PE of the Zoom KD IV ‘EYBL’ completed the package of KD IV PEs for the event. Rounding out Nike Basketball news: Michigan’s Yellow and Navy hits a House of Hoops-exclusive Air Max Tempo and two more Air Flight Ones are confirmed for this Holiday.
Moving on to the Air Yeezy 2 – a first detailed look at the Air Yeezy 2 arrives alongside some troubling release news. The Nike SB story continues to unravel with a look at a funky Koston x AM90 hybrid and a dope ‘Skunk’ custom of the Janoski. UNDFTD moves into nationwide distribution as it collaborates with Converse for a Foot Locker-exclusive collection of footwear and apparel. Rounding out the rest of this week’s top stories on Sneaker News: Nike teams with TEDxPortland with a special edition Air Max 1, Monta Ellis rocks the Bred XI and Bred XIII in one game, Sneaker Con Miami shows that it’s okay to wear two different shoes at once and Fred Jones, who is now out of the NBA, might have some of the best Air Jordan PE’s ever. March is here, and that means it’s time for the third annual Sneaker News March Madness Tournament! This year, we’re in the search for the best non-OG Air Jordan of all-time, so make sure to get your votes in. Staying on Air Jordan news, we got a nice look at the GS version of the Air Jordan VII Olympic while catching wind of Dwyane Wade’s Playoff shoe. The Nike Basketball Elite Series finally debuted, as Sneaker News was first to break the news of the LeBron 9, Hyperdunk 2011, and Kobe VII Elite. While the Zoom KD wasn’t part of the Elite squad, we did see the PE for the Nike EYBL program, set for an April commencement. Nike Skateboarding generated a lot of interesting topics of debate this week; first, we saw a new sneaker box while discovering that the ‘SB’ designation might be gone for good for some models, and second, Nike issued an apology for an SB Dunk nickname created outside of their own walls.
In other Sneaker News, pictures of the Nike Air Penny V were leaked, leading to some interesting opinions by our readers. Nike will also bring back the Air Force 180 High but without the Pressure Pump, a change that might very well be embraced by even the most strict standards. Dwyane Wade switched over to the Air Jordan XIV for the entire week, although Miami’s 1-2 record for the week may indicate a need to switch back to the Fly Wade 2. SXSW was a great event to spot your favorite celebrities wearing some sick sneakers, like Jay-Z and his Yeezy 2′s and Lil’ Wayne and his Playoff XII’s. Reebok made some news with the sick Extra Butter collaboration and the news of adding Rick Ross’ to Team ‘Bok. The cult classic Air Woven will return later this month, a nice three-way collab among Vans and two of the most influential brands of this generation will hit stores in June, and a look at an early wear-test sample of the Air Foamposite One rounded out this week’s best news. Bred XIs, Bred IVs, a ton of Air Jordan IXs – what an amazing week it’s been for Air Jordans! Of course, that’s not all the great news because we caught a first detailed look at the upcoming ‘Cool Grey’ Air Jordan XII while filling you in on some important upcoming release dates. One big release date that’s been all but confirmed is the ‘Wolf Grey’ Air Yeezy 2, which has been set for April 13th, but the curious Kobe x Air Yeezy 2 collab really set the sneaker world on fire with the ‘Cheetah’ colorway. We caught a look at two LeBron 9 PEs this week – the ‘SVSM’ Away and the tropical Floridians PE – while offering some info on the upcoming $250 Elite. KD showed his mama’s boy side with a PE of the KD IV dedicated to his mother Wanda Pratt.
On-Feet sightings were a huge hit this week as well; the NCAA Conference Tournaments kicked off with one of the sickest sneaker spreads we’ve ever seen on court. Celebrities did their thing as Jay-Z, Lil’ Wayne, Joe Budden, Victor Cruz, and Bun B got us jealous with their casual wears. The Air Force 1 will continue its 30th Anniversary celebration by hooking it’s Low-top form up with the one of the most trending topics in sneakers – Foamposite. Speaking of Foams, Penny Hardaway himself confirmed an all-white Foamposite One for latesr this year. Two great collaborations were worth noting this week – the next collection of Supreme x Vans MCs and the next Ronnie Fieg x Asics GT-II partnership. More Pantone and History of Flight samples of Air Jordans popped on eBay, as did some PEs made for two of Jordan Brand’s most prominent athlete. Finally, Sneaker News launched the the Non-OG Air Jordan March Madness Tournament, kicking things off with the Play-In Round that will end Sunday, March 11th at 5PM. February was one of the most exciting sneaker months of all-time, but now that March is here, it doesn’t look like things are slowing down. To close out Black History Month, Sneaker News showed you the Air Jordan V ‘Red Tails’ that was auctioned off at Nike Portland. A new Air Jordan XII colorway was released as well, as was the ‘Tinker Hatfield’ Dragon edition of the Air Jordan 2012. The debut of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite incited a generous amount of buzz, as the $200 fully-loaded Kobe VII shoe was revealed to have full-length Zoom, carbon fiber heel counters, and a snake-skin texture upper that reminded us of the Kobe VI. Nike iD designers are beginning to receive their Zoom KD IV iDs, and the three iDs spotted this week only raised the excitement around the KD IV and its iD capabilities. The Air Yeezy 2 continued to remain afloat as we got another look at the two upcoming Black/Pink and Zen Grey colorways.
The 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend wrapped up on Sunday night, and Sneaker News provided you some tight coverage of all the sick ‘Feet’ sightings, star-studded events, and mind-blowing sneakers. Other NBA sightings included the return of Jordan Brand athlete Bobby Simmons and Jeremy Lin rocking his Hyperdunk 2011 Low PEs that were originally intended for the Rising Stars Challenge. News of Lil’ Wayne’s signature sneaker sparked a lot of chatter, as did Penny Hardaway’s ‘Shooting Stars’ Foamposite PE. Other footwear headlines included the Kozik x SB Dunk High, some new Jeremy Scott releases, Burn Rubber’s next take on the MT580, Derrick Rose’s massive contract with adidas and the return of The Cage by Fila. After a chaotic week of sneaker releases, we bring you the final Sneaker News Weekly Rewind for the month of February. While many of you are awaiting a ‘resting’ period after this insane month of sneaker releases, it’s time to look back at one of the most newsworthy seven-day spans in recent memory. We’ll start off with the hype surrounding the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ and the Nike All-Star releases, which generated immeasurable amounts of excitement; campouts, riots, people offering cars and souls for the shoes, and other jarring details briefly summarize the impact the Galaxy Foamposite has had on the sneaker landscape, leaving us to sit back and wonder when and how the sneaker monster became so uncontainable. On top of the Foam frenzy, was the first look at the Air Jordan 6/7 Gold Medal Pack and the Air Jordan IV ‘Military’ – both of which welcomed lengthy discussions in the comments sections. Nike Basketball and Jeremy Lin took center spotlight as we got a look at some more upcoming releases as well as some PEs. Lin was a popular figure in this week’s NBA Feet segments, which featured a number of notable kicks like Q-Rich’s AJXIII PE and the NBA debut of the Air Jordan 2012.
Nike unveiled the new Nike+ Basketball and Training innovations this week while detailing the brand new Fly Knit technology that culminated in a great in-store HTM event with Mark Parker and Hiroshi Fujiwara at 21 Mercer. In addition to the new products and materials was a footwear preview of some beloved retros and new models like the Lunar Hyperdunk, as well as the NSW ‘Dream Team’ Collection. Other notable headlines included the Nike Lunar Flow Woven, which combines the Lunar Flow with a multi-colored woven upper, reminiscent of the cult classic, Air Woven. Nike Skateboarding released another beer-inspired Dunk, and we got our first peek at a crazy tonal-neon Janoski shoe. Celebrities like Victor Cruz and Kanye West made their own headlines with Yeezy 2′s and Galaxy Foams, but it was the last minute appearance of Jenny from the block in some Jay’s that eventually stole the show. Finally, the eBay auctions shifted from ‘History Of Flight’ to ‘Pantone Sample’ as we were treated with four rare Air Jordans from the set this week. Last week’s Air Jordan XI ‘Blackout’ created waves of excitement and envy, but the ‘Pantone’ sample and the sick collection of other Air Jordan XI samples at K-PALS 2012 was almost too much to handle. The Nike LeBron 9 was a top headline as well due to the Foamposite option on Nike iD, as well as the High-School PEs for Fairfax and SVSM. The Kobe VII ‘Cloak’ was again a popular topic, but a look at the Home Lakers colorway was also worth noting. Nike SB is picking up steam with its impressive March ’12 roll-out, the ‘Black and Tan’ SB Dunk, and the upcoming Levi’s collaboration. The Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ made headlines for the second week in a row, as Sneaker News provided ‘on-feet’ images of next week’s huge release.
The Nike Air Force 1 continues its XXX exposure with the Pearl Collection, which features the Nike Air Force 1 Lux Max Air and two premium-grade Low-tops. The popular line of Ewing signature sneakers was confirmed for a release for this Summer as we received a nice teaser of the Patrick Ewing hangtags. This week also marked the release of the Reebok 25th Anniversary Workout, selling out quickly at just three select retailers in the States. Wale topped the Celebrity Feet corner with his Galaxy Foams and Air Flight Ones, while NFL All-Pro Adrian Peterson was spotted with Flint XIIIs while seated courtside at an NBA game. In the NBA, Linsanity continued while the Red Metallic Foamposites and Old Royal X become popular picks. Finally, we got a look another set of Air Jordan ‘History of Flight’ samples that went up for sale on eBay. We’ll start with Air Jordan headlines, like the official launch and media event for the Air Jordan 2012 and a first look at the Air Jordan IV ‘Knicks’. The Nike All-Star 2012 Collection was unveiled, with a closer look at the Nike signatures, the Air Flight One, and the Dunk Highs. More news from the Nike Basketball trio surfaced, like the news of a US release for the ‘Invisibility Cloak’ Kobe VII, some new LeBron 9 iD options, and some more details on some key KD IV releases. Sneaker News provided you a first detailed look at the ‘Galaxy’ Foamposite and the glow-in-the-dark soles while providing release dates and information for this extremely limited release. Single pairs from the Air Jordan History Of Flight collection began popping up for sale, reminding us how clean a simple white/red colorway can be.
