We’re in the middle of trying to whittle down a field of 32 Nike LeBron sneakers to a single greatest pair in the line via our Sneaker News LeBron Madness bracket. That group features the greatest of retail releases for LeBron’s line pulled from the past ten plus years, from the Nike Zoom Generation that brought him into the league all the way up to this year’s LeBron 11. But, with the LeBron line, the unreleased samples, player exclusives, and the like, are almost as big a part of the equation.

lebron 11 history 11 Days of Nike LeBron: The LeBron XI

Over the past 11 days Sneaker News has treated you to 11 Days of Nike LeBron, a sneaker career retrospective of sorts culminating on this, the eleventh day. 11/11 of course brings us to the Nike LeBron XI, that sneaker that so recently arrived at retail. As the current generation of LeBron shoes is a story that’s still being told, so there isn’t nearly as much retrospective and reminiscence to be had. The shoe’s overall shape was one confirmed by semi-official sources a bit earlier than normal thanks to the advent of social media: one of the first good looks at the shoe came from the Instagram of Mav Carter, a close associate and manager of sorts to LeBron. It was then that we first ogled the Hyperposite built frame that seemed more armored up than any previous LeBron delivery (Keep in mind that the week prior had given us a speculative look at a black-out pair on feet for Bron during a practice session).

The eventual gold medal game that the world had anticipated saw him bring out the Nike LeBron X at last, an event that coincided with Nike’s official unveil of the shoe in that USA flavored, gold tinted colorway. Of course that wasn’t the only momentous occasion that the shoe would be forever attached to-it also took LeBron to his second championship in as many years (An even that resulted in the much lusted over “Championship Pack”).

lebron 8 history 11 Days of Nike LeBron: The LeBron 8

11 Days of Nike LeBron continues with the most controversial installment of LeBron’s signature sneaker line – the 8. The shoe arrived right after LeBron’s decision to leave his hometown Cleveland for sunny Miami, joining the likes of D-Wade and Chris Bosh in an effort to create a magnificent trio with dreams of multiple NBA titles. The superstar’s reputation took a considerable hit as the rising star was the subject of criticism for his supposed “betrayal”, forcing him to take on a bit of a villain-like role as he began lacing up his kicks in another arena. The sneaker, however, was a hit, much in part to do Nike’s flamboyant “South Beach” colorway, which altered the horizon of sneaker colorways for years to come.

lebron 7s 02 11 Days of Nike LeBron: The Air Max LeBron VII

With today’s entry into our 11 Days of Nike LeBron series we enter into the territory that’s probably still fresh in your memory. November 7th shines the spotlight on the Nike Air Max LeBron VII – the first LeBron signature to utilize visible Air Max. The sneaker marked another huge success for the Nike LeBron line, one brought on in no small part thanks to the work of Jason Petrie, a Nike designer who would go on to take over James’ line in the years to follow. One of the biggest tech differences this time was the removal of the Zoom treatment in favor of Nike’s patented Air Max cushioning, introducing to the world the first basketball-specific full-length Air unit. It was equally important from a tech and aesthetic standpoint; all of a sudden the sneaker was riding on a gigantic, aesthetically pleasing, full length Max Air bubble. The upper was unlike previous iterations as well thanks to the linear Flywire treatment that criss-crossed its main section – another first for the LeBron line.

We’re exactly at the halfway mark for our 11 Days of Nike LeBron series, bringing you through LBJ’s first five signature offerings from Nike. Next in line is the Nike Zoom LeBron VI, a shoe that sports one of the more conventional shapes across all of his silhouettes. In fact, the overall shape is sort of an off-handed ode to the Nike Air Force 1 High. That familiar shape certainly played a part in the notched up off-court presence that the LeBron 6 brought to the line. The sneaker further slimmed things down (To 16.8 ounces to be exact) as the overall weight for the Nike LeBron line continued to fall from the high-point that was the Zoom LeBron IV. Gone was the foot-bucket system and in place was a slightly more conventional cup sole set up.
