Some of the adidas adiZero Rose 2.5 colorways already have an Elephant print-like texture on their mid panels, and thought the above pair does not, it does indeed offer a nod to the same late ’80s Chicago Bulls legend upon whose feet that legendary look was birthed. It’s Air Jordan IV instead of III on the latest adiRose 2.5, a model whose Lead pedestal sees its base accented by the same kind of speckling that’s among the OG Fours’ signature elements. It’s an interesting juxtaposition to see this motif replicated on a cutting-edge performance model a quarter-century later (especially from Nike/Jordan Brand’s biggest competitor). One of the key factors that makes him such an asset to the Three Stripes is the adiZero line’s apparent popularity overseas, especially in China where speculations put Rose’s signature shoes on the same level as LeBron and Kobe in terms of popularity. With that being the case, it makes total sense for adidas Basketball to put together a tribute to a revered Chinese figure, in this case soldier of the People’s Liberation Army in China Lei Feng. The olive colorway certainly conveys the military background, and the Chinese inscriptions on the back end calling out Lei Feng cement the theme.
