How good is your knowledge of ancient sewing machines? If you’re up on your history in that realm then you don’t need an explanation, but if not then follow us here: the adidas Rivalry Lo ‘Red Eye’ gets its name and ornate patterning from the Singer 66 model of the same name. The snakeskin prints on the base model still shine through to complete this mashup of the contemporary (that reptile Rivalry Lo dropped just last year) and the classic (the Red Eye dropped back in 1902). adidas Originals resurrected it for the 10th anniversary of their SoHo flagship, and now the Consortium division has a crack at one of Three Stripes’ most enduring ’80s basketball lowtops. The adidas Rivalry Lo returns in a couple of original colorways from the 1986 model whose hightop was one of Patrick Ewings adi-signatures. One of them rocks the familiar New York Knicks home look with orange and blue accents on a white field, while the other represents the team that repeatedly kept him from championship glory with a Chicago Bulls ‘away’ palette. Both are slated to arrive at select retailers on Black Friday, November 23rd, and you can see more shots of both below.

The Metro Attitude has been a key part of adidas Originals’ recent successes and the Conductor has played a minor role over the past few years, but there’s another mid-’80s basketball silhouette riding that familiar sole setup that Three Stripes seemed to have forgotten. But just in time for the adidas Originals SoHo store’s 10th anniversary, the adidas Originals Rivalry Lo returns with a special six-pack crafted for the city where the store is located. The NY Rivalry Lo applies snakeskin accents to the branding elements and toes of one black and five white Rivalry lowtops, and are set to touch down in limited numbers this Friday, September 21st.
