Just about a month ago, Sneaker News notified you that adidas Originals had linked up with Japanese fashion label Beauty & Youth to reissue the original Rod Laver colorway. Luckily for US Three Stripes collectors, this one has made its way across the Pacific to select stateside retailers, which means you can get your hands on this classic white/green adidas Originals Rod Laver with an upgraded cork footbed. Hopefully that means United Arrows’ ZX 500 OGs are also headed this way, but for now let’s focus on the opportunity at hand with more photos after the jump and availability beginning Tuesday, April 30th.

When last we saw the Rod Laver opt for a cork footbed, it was in collaboration with Beauty & Youth. The United Arrows imprint is once again involved with a premium rendition of this classic tennis lowtop, this time resurrecting the elegant OG colorway. The adidas Originals Rod Laver for Beauty & Youth gives you the classic white and green pairing, and while there’s not a hint of co-branding on this low-key handshake deal, that cork insole is proof positive that this edition is distinct from its predecessors, however apparently identical. adidas Originals Rod Laver “Snakeskin”

Another of adidas Originals’ heritage models joins the Year of the Snake party, but whereas other models present the question of whether to scale the Stripes/branding or the base layer, this pair skips that decision entirely. The adidas Originals Rod Laver doesn’t have stripes anyway, this classic vulc-soled edition opting instead for snake treatment on the forefoot and heel badge. It’s one of the more unusual ways we’ve seen a sneaker brand add serpentine vibes to an established silhouette, but with Chinese New Year still well over a month away, you’ll want to stick with Sneaker News to see if this changes.

Takahiro Miyashita‘s Number (N)ine fell silent around the turn of the decade but the designer wasn’t just feeling the crunch of a financial meltdown that’d caused the struggles of so many fashion companies. To the contrary, Miyashita was readying a new label after a dozen years on the earlier project, and a couple of years after the Number (N)ine x Converse Odessa collaboration closed out that brand, this new Three Stripes teamup adds attention to his new project. TheSoloist x adidas Originals capsule brings us four steely bluish-lavender suede drops in familiar styles including the Rod Laver (original and Vintage versions), Basket Profi and Norton, and we’ve got photos of the entire set after the jump below. The adidas Rod Laver is one of many classic tennis models in the Three Stripes heritage archives, but its distinct toebox, midsole and complete lack of side panel stripes makes it one of the easier ones to spot from a distance. adidas Skateboarding isn’t restructuring or collaborating with Levi’s; they didn’t create a 4/20 sneaker and haven’t dropped any frustratingly-limited releases.
