adidas Originals Rod Laver – Black – Gum

The adidas Rod Laver is one of many classic tennis models in the Three Stripes heritage archives, but its distinct toebox, midsole and complete lack of side panel stripes makes it one of the easier ones to spot from a distance.  But even with that unique signature, you might make a double-take when looking at this new pair that not only comes in a novel material combo, but also a colorway that’s far from the iconic green-on-white OGs.  This new Rod Laver lowtop opts instead of sticking with that time-tested formula, to go with a trendier tonal blend of black nubuck and ripstop, as well as the gum brown outsole that’s been so popular over the past few years.  Click through for more images, let us know how these compare to other black Rod Lavers (like the ‘B.B.U.’ Vin drops) and grab yours at select adidas Originals retailers like Oneness.

United Arrows x adidas Originals Rod Laver Vin

The Rod Laver Vintage silhouette has been a popular one for adidas divisions ranging from the Originals classics lineup to the Three Stripes skate team.  This latest drop comes in collaboration with one of Japan’s leading clothing retailers in continuation of the ‘B.B.U’ partnership to which their Beauty & Youth label is the first abbreviated.  These United Arrows x adidas Originals Rod Lavers are tangentially connected to the other 3 BBU Rod Laver Vins coming up soon, but the use of a woven espadrille-like sole has these standing out against both that set and the majority of white summer sneakers we’ve seen thus far.  Click through for a closer look, then grab yours from select Three Stripes stockists like SNS.

adidas skate april 2012 dqm adidas Skate Spring 2012 Releases Available

adidas Skateboarding isn’t restructuring or collaborating with Levi’s; they didn’t create a 4/20 sneaker and haven’t dropped any frustratingly-limited releases.  What the Three Stripes skate divison does have, however, is a seemingly neverending supply of classic lowtop designs to which simple colorways can be applied beautifully and in large numbers.  Their latest round of releases includes drops ranging from Lucas Puig’s white adidas Skate Rod Laver Vin to Dennis Busenitz’ grey/green Samba-inspired sigs, along with standby models like the adi Ease and Campus Vulc.  Check out the entire collection below and grab yours from select retailers like DQM.

Much has been made of this year marking the 20th anniversary of the Barcelona Olympics and its unforgettably dominant Dream Team, with slightly less attention being paid to earlier events including the 1972 Munich Games.  But did you know that along with models like the SL 72 and Munchen, adidas also debuted the Trefoil logo we’ve come to know and love almost exactly forty years ago?  It’s with this birthday in mind that adidas Originals’ Japanese contingent has come through with a quartet of new releases, two each of the adidas Originals Rod Laver Vin and Superstar 80s LTHR, each group of which reflects its design’s heritage while pushing forward toward today’s trends.  Check out all four in additional images below and we’ll update you should these hit the States.  Photos: Hayabusa

mita sneakers x adidas Originals Rod Laver Vin ‘B.B.U’

What started as a single espadrille-style Rod Laver from United Arrows last week has blossomed into a full-on pack that continues the ‘B.B.U’ partnership struck between Beauty & Youth, Bedwin (& the Heartbreakers) and UNDFTD last year.  Joining that trio is Japan’s mita sneakers who’ve patterned their adidas Originals Rod Laver Vin after the legendary Samba indoor soccer shoe.  These strongly resemble the OG Samba, from their black suede uppers to the extended tongue and gum sole, but these keep with the ultra-clean Rod Laver style, simply implying Three Stripes with six perf columns on the side panels.  Check these out up close after the jump and let us know if they’re worth importing when the ‘B.B.U’ Rod Laver Vins arrive at select retailers on Saturday, April 28th.  Photos: EyesCream

adidas Originals Rod Laver Vintage Lux ‘Perf Pack’

adidas originals rod laver perf pack 1 adidas Originals Rod Laver Vintage Lux Perf Pack

The adidas Originals Rod Laver Vintage has come to us in a variety of packages over the past few years, but only the Lux models can boast from their perch on the top shelf.  The latest pack applies a couple of interesting twists to this familiar silhouette, namely the upper’s microperforations and its eyestays’ contrast piping.  The former is one of those things you can only appreciate when you get a good look from up close, but the latter serves to enhance this design’s throwback appeal without straying too far from the original blueprint.  Black and grey pairs both get white stripes to match their laces and soles, while a white pair goes with the OG green contrasts and all three are depicted in greater detail below.  Photos: ameblo
