Lingering on the periphery of adidas Originals’ release catalog thanks to David Beckham’s interpretation and a few other occasional releases, Three Stripes most ‘special’ handball sneaker now appears poised to join the regular rotation. The adidas Originals (Handball) Spezial is back in a couple new monochromatic colorups whose use of leather stripes atop suede uppers echoes the pair we showed you last week. This new duo, though, opts for dark brown soles that lend a more formal feel, simultaneously hinting at the classic goodness of the iconic gum bottom. adidas’ Eurocentric history means their best-selling ‘football’ products are designed for the pitch instead of the gridiron, and here’s another case where the standout American version of a sport will call to mind a different image than inspired the above pictured model. Handball here in the states is like a racquet sport played with just the hands, but the team variation is a long-established Olympic sport for which the adidas Originals Spezial was originally crafted. Like many of Three Stripes classic lowtops, the (Handball) Spezial has evolved into a casual standard, though this Craft Gold and orange pair is sure to stick out from the pack this summer.
