Snakeskin is one of the more natural treatments you could expect from a Chinese New Year celebratory sneaker, so it’s popping up in a bunch of places as we approach 2013. One of the designs we’ve had an eye on for a while now is this duo of adidas Originals Superstar 80s covered in the scaly stuff, white and red pairs with a nice effect from the black/grey scales, Stripes and laces, along with a bit of Chinese jade on the dubrae and hangtag medallion. These are coming up on a January release with plenty of time to spare before the official start of the Year of the Snake, and there’s a new set of photos waiting after the jump below.

Beauty and youth are phrases synonymous with timeless sneakers like the immortal adidas Shelltoe, so when a company with that very name collaborates with the Brand with the Three Stripes on arguably their most familiar silhouette, the results should be impressive. And as you can see in the images above and after the jump depicting the Beauty & Youth x adidas Originals Superstar 80s, the United Arrows sublabel made good on its own name, rafting a luxuriously creamy leather design whose suede accents serve to further the sense of superior softness. Have a look at some more details below and find yours at one of the few retailers to stock this Japanese collabo here in the US, Extra Butter.

They’re not exactly the Far East equivalent of White House Black Market, but Japanese fashion label Vanquish is indeed known for an emphasis on simple blackout styles. They’ve carried this signature look over to sneaker collaborations, where a couple of team-ups with adidas Originals have broadened the scope of those ‘conquered’ by their timeless good looks. The latest is a pleasant surprise arriving here in the States, as the Vanquish x adidas Originals Superstar 80s makes a special appearance at one of New York’s best boutiques: Extra Butter.

adidas has been content to sit back and let Nike monopolize the Chinese New Year celebrations year after year, but with Three Stripes having offered so many different snakeskin styles of late, there’s no better time to get synced up with the lunar calendar. The adidas Originals Superstar 80s CNY celebrates the Year of the Snake with a couple of serpent-scaled Shelltoes that add jade dubraes and lucky stone hangtags to complete the China-inspired theme. White and red pairs should arrive at retailers some time around the February 10th, 2013 holiday, so check back with Sneaker News for release info and enjoy each pair from additional angles below in the meantime.

There’s no better designer to ask to put a spin on a classic adidas silhouette than Jeremy Scott, whose bold Originals by Originals collaborations have been among the most ostentatious and polarizing in recent memory. His latest effort comes on the model most strongly associated with the Brand with the Three Stripes, a predictably bold take on the classic Shelltoe lowtop that reprises a theme of which we’ve seen a few examples since last year. The Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals Superstar 80s ‘Ripple’ applies polka dots atop a crinkled leather upper whose texture and material carries over to the iconic rubber bumper. Another style that proves 2012 is truly a year filled with ‘Golden Moments’, this JS Superstar 80s just touched its Trefoil-tractioned soles down at Caliroots.

Many sneaker collaborations of Japanese origins are tough to come by here in the US, and while that remains true with these new Shelltoe teamups, European sneakerheads will have a much easier time thanks to adidas Originals’ Berlin No74 and London No6 retail spots. Joining Vanquish’s blackout design with late October Euro releases following the Japan debut, the Beauty & Youth x adidas Originals Superstar 80s is as subtle as its lack of earlier previews suggests. Let us know how this softly-colored B&Y Superstar compares to the others we previewed last week and be sure to check back with Sneaker News to see if they somehow make it stateside.

Japanese clothing label VANQUISH has been making a name for itself on the collaborative sneaker scene, authoring a few guest spots that reflect the brand’s blacked-out aesthetic. Following up on this spring’s CHAPTER co-authored adiRise Mid comes another teamup with adidas Originals, this time on a silhouette that made its name by Raising Hell in black leather. The VANQUISH x adidas Originals Superstar 80s utilizes a rich cowhide on the upper as juxtaposed against a griptape-like abrasive material, star-shaped studs and a cheetah sockliner. Put another way, these rockstar tuxedo Shelltoes are some of the most expressive black/white kicks we’ve seen during a year when that colorway is king, and they’re available now at the Vanquish e-store.
