Thanks to all that Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ momentum, 2012 has been a great time for black/white sneakers. adidas Originals had gotten in on this surge earlier when they released the Run-DMC tribute Superstars last November, then they tried another super-simple look on the iconic shelltoe this April as part of a series of Japanese exclusives. Somewhere in the middle of those two is this elegant adidas Originals Superstar 80s, a suede-Striped black leather design whose gold branding completes a classic look that’ll be around as long as people have feet. Kazuki Kuarishi’s adidas Originals by Originals campaign has slowed to a trickle but the model that’s been arguably his biggest success is just too good not to keep releasing in new colorways. Pictured above is the third kzkLOT x adidas Originals Superstar 80s, and though these don’t have the same ‘Breathe’ nickname as the original black design, their mesh upper construction means these are every bit the “breathable shoes for the hot days of Hong Kong or nowadays LA,” Edison Chen described back at the project’s nexus in 2010. Check out this new blue edition, let us know how it compares to the white and black pairs and be ready for these to arrive at Juice on June 22nd with select retailers to follow in July.

Much has been made of this year marking the 20th anniversary of the Barcelona Olympics and its unforgettably dominant Dream Team, with slightly less attention being paid to earlier events including the 1972 Munich Games. But did you know that along with models like the SL 72 and Munchen, adidas also debuted the Trefoil logo we’ve come to know and love almost exactly forty years ago? It’s with this birthday in mind that adidas Originals’ Japanese contingent has come through with a quartet of new releases, two each of the adidas Originals Rod Laver Vin and Superstar 80s LTHR, each group of which reflects its design’s heritage while pushing forward toward today’s trends. The recently-wrapped St. Patrick’s Day has its roots across the Atlantic Ocean, and though this new adidas Originals Superstar 80s‘ timing and green/orange/white color scheme suggests an Irish theme, the color code suggests inspiration from the world’s largest body of water. This Miami Dolphins-leaning Shelltoe adds Half Orange stripes to its Big Sur suede body, a color named for the notoriously beautiful coastal California town whose cliffs provide a breathtaking view of the Pacific you’ve probably seen in car commercials. The premium construction and German origin on these equates roughly to a top-tier Volkswagen, but you can grab these ‘Big Sur’ Superstar 80s at a much more affordable price from Sweden’s SNS.

Jeremy Scott has been doing the animal inspired thing for adidas Originals for a minute now, but if you’re looking for a pair without all kinda wild additions hanging off the edges, then the Kinetics x adidas Originals Superstar 80s ‘Animal’ might be the one for you. Showing up on a classic shell-toed silhouette, the design here is a bit of a cross-breed with the leopard print horse hair matched with the scaly snakeskin of the side stripes. 2011 was certainly a big year for this sort of safari’d out sneaker, so can models like the Kinetics x adidas Originals Superstar 80s ‘Animal’ help carry the trend in 2012? It was just about one year ago that Sneaker News brought you evidence of then-upcoming releases from adidas Originals that showed a fairly strong trend toward utilizing wild animal prints on their beloved classic silhouettes. We got a look at two different Big Sean collabo Superstar shelltoe designs back in October whose subsequent disappearance suggests a release date sometime later this year, and now here comes even more momentum for the Three Stripes safari into 2012. The Kinetics x adidas Originals Superstar 80s ‘Animal’ is named appropriately for its use of leopard print horse hair on the uppers next to snakeskin scales on the side panel Stripes, but also as an indication of other similar designs to come as part of the summer ’12 collection.
