‘Really‘?! adidas Originals, really?! You’re just going to put out a Kermit the Frog sneaker on the heels of The Muppets appearance alongside Jason Segel on Saturday Night Live, really?! SNL sendups aside, you really couldn’t ask for better timing on these in the wake of this weekend’s TV appearance and the launch of the film this Wednesday, November 23rd, and the adidas Originals Superstar II ‘Kermit the Frog’ is positioned to be the sneaker game’s answer to Tickle Me Elmo this holiday season. In fact, they probably won’t even make it to the Wednesday premiere, with details like the tongue and ‘The Original Hip-Hop’ branding on the lateral sides making these a must-have for Jim Henson fans and avant garde sneakerheads alike. There was a period of time in the mid/late ’00s when adidas offered an array of ‘oddities’, classic models crafted in colors that in some cases seemed to clash, in most were indicative of advanced color study, and in all cases, drew a ton of attention to their wearers’ multi-colored feet. Glimpses of this bold pre-recession style have been spotted here and there over the last few months as designers are starting to feel more adventurous again, and as was the case in 2006-’08, the Brand with the Three Stripes is leading the way with curious color combos. Take for instance this new Styles x adidas Originals Superstar II crafted on the miadidas online customization service. It’s something like an Alpha Kappa Alpha ice cream social where neopolitan is the flavor of the day; are they a tasty treat or something you’d leave on the ever-expanding buffet line that is the sneaker market? Has any other brand collaborated with more sneaker companies than Disney? With tag-team efforts ranging from Etnies to Reebok, the world’s family media leader has covered all their bases (except for Nike), and here’s a new Mickey Mouse x Three Stripes collabo. The Disney x adidas Originals Superstar II Mickey X goes with the immortal Chicago-style palette and ends up looking like Kaws might have been involved thanks to the unique glove-shoe ‘X’ pattern on the forefoot. Mickey appears none too happy to have been de-torso’d, but the face he’s making on the tongue does indeed impart a bit of extra attitude to this design. adidas Originals just collaborated with A Bathing Ape on a new Superstar, but they kept it clean this time around, opting for a simple suede getup that left the Japanese brand’s camouflage motif to be utilized elsewhere. The adidas Originals Superstar II pictured above is about as close to a Bape camo print as you could get without Milo on board, their soft, almost cel shaded pattern considerably more cartoony than your traditional stealthy garb. Their earthy palette plus white sole is a great combo for moving into colder weather and you can grab a pair right now from Kicks-Crew.

Miami’s Mr. R Sports has been serving South Beach sneakers since 1973, but the store has only recently come into national prominence thanks to a more aggressive internet presence. Mr. R is also among the official partners for the upcoming Sneaker Con Miami that takes place on July 30th, and this gave the store a chance to hook up with longtime Sneaker Con sponsor, adidas, on this 13-pair limited edition collaborative design. The Mr. R Sports x adidas Originals Superstar II avoids the cliche MIA pastels in favor of a simple orange-on-white design, plus the store’s winged logo on the lateral heels. The Star Wars saga (or at least part of it) finds its way back to theaters every couple years, but George Lucas’ signature franchise’s collaboration with adidas Originals sees far more frequent releases. The latest adidas Originals x Star Wars release is in the form of a Superstar II ‘Rogue Squadron Rebel Alliance’. The tongue is self explanatory, a Rebel Alliance logo on the heel adding some character to the tonal grey ‘space camo’ uppers.
